Vans x White Mountaineering – Chukka 49 DX & Sk8-Low (Japan Only!)

https-__hypebeast.com_image_2023_10_vans-x-white-mountaineering-shoe-release-info-002

info via Hypebeast:

“Vans and Yosuke Aizawa‘s utility-based White Mountaineering label have teamed up again, this time to release two different shoes, a Chukka 49 DX and SK8 Low.

The latest release follows the two brands’ SS23 collab, which saw them come together for two subtle takes on the Authentic and Classic Slip-On silhouettes. Like the previous collab, the two models introduced this time are based on the original models manufactured at Vans factory in Anaheim, California — notably utilizing the model name and style number that has been used since the company’s founding.

Design-wise, both shoes feature an original plant print on their nubuck uppers and complementary colored laces. Specifically, the high-cut Chukka 49 DX has a double motif of the same pattern laser-cut over the printed pattern, giving it a special three-dimensional feel”.

Both pairs are set to release via Vans and White Mountaineering’s official sites and retailers, with the Chukka 49 DX priced at ¥16,500 JPY or $110 USD and the SK8 Low for ¥15,400 JPY or $102 USD.

Every once in awhile the Vans Anaheim Factory Collection will put out a retro print or design based on an original 80’s or 90’s creation, and this is another one of those perfect examples.  We’ve seen Streetstyle Vans here and there throughout the years, and even a few original USA vintage pairs have popped up, and this the latest one to come out.  They’ve taken the “acid wash” denim print that has been recently used in the Vault line, first with St. Alfred’s Authentic collab, and then in the Originals line.  We get a few new colors, mainly the blushing, and the blue version.  These feature a cool streetstyle woven label sewn into the side of the shoe, which is a nod to the original design, which I’m not sure was created for an actual contest named streetstyle, or if it was just a nod to those who skated street style back in the day.  I’m not an expert.  So what.  Anyways, if these are something you need, feel free to click thru the pic above and support us!

Not a new release here, but just a reminder that Vans has this amazing line called the Anaheim Factory Collection.  For all you new heads, this is about as close as you’re going to get to a vintage made in the USA pair.  The attention to details are what these are all about.  Shape.  Canvas weight.  Foxing height.  Texture.  They’re perfect, and they are a favorite of ours, as well as anyone who really gives a shit about Vans on the level that we do.  Sure, Vault is the premium line, and they do also make pairs similar to this, but these are it.  Plus they’re lowkey.  No hype.  No status.  No clout chasing.  What’s that old saying?  “If you know, you know”!  Get you a pair, and support us by clicking through the link embedded in the pic above.

Vans x Tony Alva – Collection (1.12.23)

DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission.

info via Hypebeast:

“Today, Vans and Tony Alva’s skating imprint, Alva Skates, have joined forces to craft a line that champions both brands’ histories, with contributions from artist DJ Javier, Vans team rider Bella Kenworthy and musician KennyHoopla.

Vans and Alva go way back. In 1974, the American skateboarder signed a deal with the footwear brand, just under a decade into its existence. In 1977, Alva founded his namesake skating brand, after playing a pivotal role in creating Vans’ first-ever skateboarding shoe, the Era. And ever since, the two entities have existed symbiotically in their influence over the skating domain.

In an interview with Hypebeast in 2017, Alva reflected on how he has witnessed Vans evolve over the years. “I’ve watched Vans come from a little small mom-and-pop business to where it’s $3 Billion a year super successful, and it’s because we stayed true to the game. We’re open to promoting ourselves through things that kids are passionate about: music, art, fashion — but like real fashion done by the kids for the kids — surfing and skateboarding.”

Inside their collaborative collection, Vans and Alva introduce the Authentic 44 DX Alva Skates in Brown/Pink, with leopard-printed suede that recalls the blueprint Alva Skates boards from the ’70s. The silhouette features enlarged logo work that references the skate brand’s original iconography. Elsewhere, the range features the Authentic 44 DX Alva Skates in Halo Multi, which call on the halo effect of ’80s boards with a gradient print, and the Authentic 44 DX Alva Skates in Navy, which pair a quilted canvas upper with a subtle, white lotus pattern.

Rounding out the range, the collaboration offers up an Alva Skates crew fleece with fiery graphics, the OTW T-shirt doused in black-and-white illustrations, loose tapered cargo pants and a bucket hat decorated with Vans and Alva Skates pins.”

The Alva Skates collection will be available beginning January 12 at Vans stores as well as online.

Vans Anaheim Factory x Mooneyes – Authentic 44 DX (3.25.22)

vans-000

DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission.

Vans is continuing their long-standing relationship with Mooneyes, which goes back to the late 60’s to early 70’s, with a new rendition of the iconic Mooneyes Vans Authentic.  This very same Mooneyes eyeshape logo was used on the first pairs that Vans manufactured in their original factory in Anaheim, CA, which we’ve seen a few pairs floating around online, as well as on display in the NHRA museum in Pomona, CA.  Vans reintroduced this all-over print via the Mooneyes x Vault by Vans collection back in 2008, on an Era LX.  We didn’t see the print again, until a Japan-exclusive Authentic released at the Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show in 2018.

Well, Vans and Mooneyes fans can rejoice, because we’re now getting the most authentic to the original version, by way of the Anaheim Factory collection.  The Authentic 44 DX aka “Style 44”, features the original “Made In USA” shape, and heavier 10oz. canvas, as well as the glossy vulcanized sidewalls that we all love, especially when it comes to cleaning them.  There will be a White/Black pair, representing the original one, as well as a Black/Red pair, and a Mooneyes must have, in Yellow/Black.  These are beautiful, and best of all, they’re releasing here in the USA!

Not sure what pricing will be, but they’re listed at ¥10,000 over on Mooneyes JP’s site.  We imagine they’ll be in the standard Anaheim pricing of around $95-$105.  Not much more to say, but these are awesome, and you’ll definitely want a pair, or 3!

Vans and size? have been celebrating and documenting the intricate and inimitable work that goes into craft the brand’s unique Needlework patterns. Coming together once again to bring to life an Authentic Style #44 from the Vans Anaheim Factory range, no two pairs bear the same pattern layout, such is the individualistic nature of the Needlepoint technique used to create Needlework shoes.

The Vans Needlework Anaheim Factory Collection is a retro-infused capsule of shoes that celebrates custom-made styles and DIY creativity. What’s more, the shoes also nod to the Californian Anaheim Factory, using unique stylings, OG style numbers, plus an array of other throwback features. Also joining the collection is a rustic looking silhouette that arrives with woven canvas on the upper coated in a tan hue with embroidered floral designs that hark back to the ‘70s. A Vans label on the lateral sidewall adds a touch of heritage, while an earthy, speckled vulcanised sole unit contrasts beneath, completing the trainer’s skate-ready aesthetic.
