Vans BMX x Dakota Roche – Sk8-Hi 238 (Available Now!)

1

Vans BMX is proud to announce the latest collection with influential rider Dakota Roche, featuring the all-new BMX-specific silhouette, the BMX Sk8-Hi 238, and accompanying head-to-toe collection. In addition, Vans and Dakota teamed up on a new short film, “Low & Hi,” that represents all the moments experienced when filming for a new part.

As a BMX icon, creative artist, and filmmaker, Dakota Roche is a multi-hyphenate talent and modern-day Renaissance man. The all-new BMX Sk8-Hi 238 is a culmination of his pursuits and interests. Vans recognizes that to be truly great, riders, their equipment and their environment need to become one: if a single element is off, the whole endeavor can come crashing down. In the spirit of creating apparel and footwear that can stand up to the demands of life on two wheels, Vans and Dakota have teamed up on a new collection aimed at BMX, and beyond.

The all-new BMX Sk8-Hi 238 features Vans’ legendary BMX WaffleCup™ chassis, providing increased support without sacrificing pedal feel, a rubber toecap with knurling for extra toe protection and durability, and PopCush™ impact cushioning. In addition, the design team and Dakota decided to strip off the Sidestripe overlay to simplify the shoe’s aesthetic and put the focus on the tongue and lateral woven labels that Dakota designed himself.

In addition to the new BMX Sk8-Hi 238 silhouette, Dakota’s latest collaboration with Vans also includes a BMX Slip-On, Dak Roche bike bag, Dak Roche SS Woven, Dak Roche Mesh Trucker, a white demitasse striped button-down with pockets at the chest, a 1966 woven patch at the left chest and a woven label at the front bottom right with Vans branding, and custom artwork from Dakota himself.

Like Dakota Roche, the all-new BMX SK8-Hi 238 and supporting collection is built specifically for BMX. Dakota knows working through the highs and lows is what it takes to get anything done right. It’s these moments that are captured in his latest Vans BMX film, “Low & Hi,” which chronicles all the moments Dakota goes through while filming for a new video part. Dakota’s years of experience and hard work are reflected, both in the film and the design of his shoe.

The Vans BMX Sk8-Hi 238 by Dakota Roche collection is available now at Vans BMX retail locations and at Vans.com/bmx.

SE Bikes launched the world’s first 29” BMX bike, the Big Ripper in 2009 which took the retro BMX world by storm. The Big Ripper has gone on to become the #1 bike in the Bike Life scene and serves as inspiration for the second Vans x SE Bikes collection. Driving heritage and progression, Vans and SE Bikes are proud to introduce an exclusive colorway of the EVDNT UltimateWaffle™. Using the unique UltimateWaffle™ construction, the EVDNT UltimateWaffle™ features a translucent outsole that combines a built-in UltraCush™ insole with an internal stabilizing shank for more cushioning, durability and support. The LuxLiner™ interior creates the perfect sock-like fit for more support and comfortable wear while you pedal and ride all day and is finished with a sleek breathable knitted mesh upper and perforated suede overlays for style, form and durable function. A heritage Vans “Off The Wall” logo is placed on the tongue and SE Bikes branding on the heel counter. Complimenting the EVDNT is the Sk8-Hi® Reissue with reflective checkerboard emblazoned quarter panels, each accented with a white leather Sidestripe. The black suede tongue features a heritage Vans “Off The Wall” togue label along with custom Vans and SE Bikes patches reminiscent of those found on vintage BMX jerseys. Each hi-top is finished with “Off The Wall” and “Big Ripper” written across each sidewall in custom SE Bikes font. The collection is complete with a Vans x SE Undertone II Bucket Hat that uses a black cotton canvas and a custom SE OTW patch.

To accompany their second collaborative footwear and apparel release, Vans and SE Bikes shot a new campaign celebrating the community, culture and fun of the Bike Life scene. Titled “Don’t Try This at Home”, the video campaign challenges the recent hype of indoor cycling, inviting people to get back outside and explore the city. “Off The Wall” bike life goes much deeper than simply riding, it’s all about exploring and enjoying the community and culture of your city and finding new, creative ways to express yourself through cycling. It’s about making the most of a life lived outdoors.

Finally, in celebration of the Vans x SE Bikes collaboration, Chino Braxton will make an appearance on Channel 66 to speak on his experience with bike culture. Tune in on 7/23 @ 7-9pm EST at www.vans.com/channel66.

SE Bikes just released a bunch of images of their Vans collab 20″ P.K. Ripper which is set to release this Summer, alongside the rest of the product that is coming out.  For this announcement, SE Bikes had shot a few pics with Perry Kramer, the BMX pro who the bike was originally made for back in the day, and where the “P.K.” gets it’s name from.  Limited to 250 bikes in the U.S.  This bike is amazing, has a ton of Vans custom pieces on it, including SE waffle grips and tires, pads, and maybe some other stuff I missed.  If anyone has a plug on one, let me know!  Not much more info as of yet, so just enjoy the pics!

DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission.

Vans the original action sports footwear and apparel brand, has become known for its collaborations with like-minded leaders in the action sports industry. This season, the brand partners with legendary BMX brand SE Bikes for a collection that celebrates bike life culture and honors both brands’ legacies.

In 1970, at just 14 years old, Scot Breithaupt organized the first ever BMX race in a vacant lot in Long Beach, California. The rest, as they say, is history, as Scot became one of the main forces in growing the sport. Seven years later, he founded Scot Enterprises, and SE Racing was born. Best known for its “PK Ripper” bike, designed in 1979 and named after BMX legend Perry Kramer, SE has evolved along with the sport, innovating and introducing new bike styles.

The Vans x SE Bikes collection brings SE branding to Vans’ Style 36 silhouette—the 1978 forefather of todays Old Skool, which debuted the brands now iconic Sidestripe.  Available in three different colorways, the shoe features reflective checkerboard detailing and sidewall art that calls out some of SE’s most popular bikes. For little riders who prefer to ditch the laces, the collection also features a Velcro version of the modern Old Skool in a throwback racing red and plume colorway available in toddler sizes.

Leading the apparel collection is a graphic tee in the same colorway, featuring a signature SE and Vans “Off The Wall” collaboration logo. The coordinating Mini Ward Cross Body bag keeps riders’ hands free, while a reflective 3M checkerboard stripe below the zipper brings the style. The same reflective checkerboard motif carries over on a long sleeve ringer tee and camper hat, while a fleece short, long sleeve knit shirt and pullover hoodie complete the look.

The Vans x SE Bikes collection is available beginning this April at select Vans retailers and sebikes.com. For more information, visit Vans.com/sebikes.

Vans – BMX Checkerboard Pack (June 2018)

image002

Vans, the first action sports apparel and footwear brand to ever support BMX, is introducing retro-inspired colorways across two Classic silhouettes as part of the BMX Checkerboard Pack. The five-piece collection out this fall uses vintage color combinations and Vans iconic checkerboard pattern to update the Era and Sk8-Hi models.

Designers looked to the brand’s nearly 40-year legacy in action sports, drawing inspiration from colorways first worn and sported by its own BMX team riders in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. The BMX Checkerboard pack highlights the Era and Sk8-Hi, which are each outfitted in a two-tone color scheme and checkerboard printed sidewalls. The Era will be available in three colorways including an ode to the original red and navy two-tone model that was first developed by Dogtown legends, Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta in 1976. The star of the collection offering comes from the Sk8-Hi, which was a pivotal shoe for the performance of BMX riders because it provided ankle coverage and protection when racing BMX and attempting freestyle tricks on bikes. The BMX Checkerboard Sk8-Hi honors that progression with two color-ups each featuring Checkerboard along the quarter panels in addition to the checkered sidewall.

The BMX Checkerboard Pack will be available to shop in Vans retail stores and online at Vans.com/classics beginning this June.

Vans Vault x NEIGHBORHOOD – BMX Capsule Collection (Spring 2017)

https://i0.wp.com/www.underthepalmleaves.com/wp-content/gallery/vault-x-nbhd-bmx-collection-spring-2017/http-_hypebeast.com_image_2017_04_vault-by-vans-neighborhood-collaboration-1.jpg?resize=620%2C413

Vault by Vans has gotten together with NEIGHBORHOOD on this amazing BMX-inspired collaboration.  Featuring one of Vans’ iconic logos, the “Thumbs Up”, this pack pays homage to Vans’ heritage in the action sport of BMX.  The pack comes in two colorways, red and black, straying from NBHD’s usual black and white theme, with the intention of making this project all about Vans, and not them.  They wanted to evoke a nostalgic feeling in the design, so they went with an aesthetic from the formative years at Vans, complete with checkerboards on the vulcanized scene or “side-wall”, as well as on the toe of two of the Authentics.  NBHD didn’t stop there.  There is a complete apparel line that is releasing alongside the shoes, including some long-sleeve tees, button-ups, shorts, and a bucket hat.  This whole pack is dope, and unfortunately it’s going to be an Asia-exclusive.

Hypebeast sat down with NEIGHBORHOOD’s Creative Director Shinsuke Takizawa, to learn more about the design elements that went into the collab, and uncover the origin of the BMX inspiration.  Read the article HERE.
