Vans California – Embossed Check Old Skool Reissue CA (Holiday 2014)

Here’s another banger from Vans California, dubbed the Embossed Check Old Skool Reissue CA.  Look familiar?  That might be because it looks like the younger sibling to the Syndicate Authentic 69 Pro “S” that came out last year, and that’s a dope thing!  Featuring Scotchgard treated pigskin suede uppers, done up in tonal red or blue with an embossed checkerboard pattern for that awesome subtle detail, noticeable when up close.  They sit on an all-white sole, with gum waffle treads, and feature the signature Vans CA Ortholite insoles.  Cop now from the Vans webstore by clicking on the pic above or below!

Vans California – Old Skool “Coated Twill” Pack (Holiday 2014)

vans-california-old-skool-coated-twill-pack-3

This has got to be one of the nicest Old Skools to come out in awhile, and it’s no surprise that it comes to us from the California collection.  I swear the colorways and materials that they have been choosing are on par with the top-tier Vault line!  Whoever is responsible for knocking these heaters out season after season, deserves some proper recognition.  Cheers to you!  For this particular release, they went with a tonal black or tan colorway, and to get a better idea of the design, here’s what Vans has to say:  “Made to bear the brunt of unruly weather, premium waxed twill uppers are treated to resist the elements, further enhancing the rich texture of quality materials. As the California Collection demonstrates season after season, convincing design comes in unobtrusive detail, and purposefully placed components such as a cheetah print lining, tortoise shell eyelets, a syped bottom plate and premium woven laces prove the point”.  These are now available for purchase on the Vans webstore.  Support Under The Palms and click on the pic above to purchase either colorway!

Words via Vans:

“This minimalist, three-eyelet Chukka Boot lives and breathes the deconstructed design concept. Tonal round and waxed laces blend in with rich suede uppers in Bitter Chocolate, Glazed Ginger, and Mallard Blue for a sleek and unassuming look in a classic Vans high-top silhouette. The colors of the uppers are derived from Southwestern Native American rugs and their traditional patterns run along the heel into a pull loop to lend poise and personality to a shoe that has become a staple of sophistication and eclectic tastes.”  Available for purchase by clicking on the pic above, or after the jump.  Support OTWS!

vans-california-2013-holiday-suede-woven-textiles-collection-02

Words via Vans:

“The artisan workmanship of ancient Inca cultures offers fertile grounds for design exploration in the modern age. With patterns and colors inspired by pre-Columbian Inca shawls harnessed in the venerable Sk8-Hi silhouette, this Reissue CA version emphasizes the traditional material’s intricacy and complexity by contrasting warm fall tones with a full grain leather color pop sidestripe undulating across the side panels. In Bronze Brown and Olive Night, suede overlays on vamp, eyestay, and heel combined with a canvas lining, suede lining on the tongue, and tonal laces ground this high-top in the earthy cohesion of color and form conceived long before it was called “design”.”  Purchase the shoes now by clicking on the pic above and below.  Support OTWS!

Vans CA x DQM – HBT Authentic Pack

07_DQM_Vans_Edit_-750x500

Words via DQM:

“DQM will be releasing it’s Holiday 14 footwear collection in collaboration with Vans on Friday, November 15th. Made exclusively for DQM, the ‘HBT Authentic’ collection is inspired by the Herringbone Twill (HBT) uniform introduced in World War II. Made of of 8.2-ounce heavy cotton herringbone twill cloth, the uniform consisted of an OD shirt, trousers, and a circular-billed cotton utility hat. It was initially meant to be worn over the basic wool uniform to provide protection, but soon proved to be a much better material as the primary uniform for hot weather and tropical climates.

The DQM/Vans footwear collaboration takes design cues from the WWII HBT and gives them a twist. Using a unique enzyme process created specifically for this project, we wanted to make a subtle camo using the highs and lows that the enzyme process created. The reference for the colors are Jungle, Desert and Ocean. The eyelets have a saltwater patina finish and the shoes utilize a syped bottomplate, as a nod to Vans’ nautical past, and for the functionality of the tread on wet surfaces. The shoes feature a pigskin flag label, round leather laces, The Vans DQM General logo on the insole and The General’s signature navy blue heel tab print.”

Produced in a limited edition, the shoes will be available exclusively at The Vans DQM General in SoHo, New York, and The Vans DQM General on Newbury St in Boston, MA, and in the DQM online store www.dqmnewyork.com.

Photographed by Gerhard Stochl in The Rockaways, New York. Worn by Brendan Carroll and Vrn Powell.
