Vans Skateboarding Presents ‘Onward’: An All-New Skate Film from Lizzie Armanto

Lizzie’s first full-length edit in nearly five years highlights her one-of-a-kind style and solidifies her position among skateboarding’s best

Watch the Global Digital Premiere of ‘Onward’ today

at 5 PM PST

Those who know Vans pro skateboarder Lizzie Armanto, know that her barrier-breaking approach to skateboarding has shifted the landscape. Her accolades, like appearing on the world stage to represent the sport, speak for themselves and make her a role model for skateboarders everywhere. Expanding on her list of accomplishments, Vans, the global leader in skateboarding for more than 50 years, is proud to unveil a fresh angle on Lizzie’s world-class skateboarding in a new film, Onward, directed by celebrated filmmaker Greg Hunt and filmed by master lensmen Chris Gregson and TJ Gaskill.

The first full-length edit from Lizzie in nearly five years, Onward showcases what Lizzie has become known for—her humble, hard-working approach, one-of-a-kind style, and tenacity to make any trick a reality.

“It’s been incredible to see Lizzie overcome her injuries and get to where she’s at now,” Hunt said. “And it’s so much fun to work with Chris Gregson’s and TJ Gaskill’s footage. I’m really excited to see this come together.”

The goal was to create a film as visually exciting as Lizzie’s skating, adds Gregson, noting that they drew inspiration from her love for traveling, which is represented in the various locations Onward was filmed, as well as spending time with a close-knit group of her friends and fellow skateboarders. Featuring appearances from Mami Tezuka and Axel Cruysberghs, the film drives home Lizzie’s gratitude to the skate community and her ultimate support system of friends and family.

In anticipation of the film’s premiere, Lizzie shared the following about what the project has meant to her: In the past, filming felt like I was trying to prove I was ‘good enough’. I feel like this part has been about proving that to myself, and that I am stronger than my injuries. Everyone involved in the project has been a huge motivator. We kept the crew small. My favorite thing is that everyone’s passionate about what they’re doing, and it’s been contagious.”

Earlier this season, Vans and Lizzie dropped a new, head-to-toe collection that leads with her first signature skateboarding silhouette, The Lizzie. The offering opens the aperture on what inclusive, all-gender footwear and apparel looks like, and reinforces that skateboarding should be open to everyone.

Tune in at 5 PM today at vans.com/lizzie for the global premiere of Vans Skateboarding’s Onward, featuring Lizzie Armanto.

thumbnail_image003

Vans, the original action sports footwear and apparel brand, is proud to announce the Vans x Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Collection by Lizzie Armanto. Inspired by the pioneering show and skater, the newest collection between Vans and Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon is a joyful yet gritty love letter for fans to wear on their sleeve. The collection of footwear, apparel and accessories evokes a DIY-approach with an old-school feel, led by Vans’ new performance-driven silhouette, The Lizzie— the first Vans signature skateboarding shoe designed by a woman in 20 years. Available on June 10, 2022, the Vans x Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon by Lizzie Armanto collection is part of a broader Vans x Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon capsule.

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon is a shojo manga written by Naoko Takeuchi, which began serializing in 1991 in the monthly magazine Nakayosi (published by Kodansha). The original book has been translated into 17 languages and the animated series produced by Toei Animation has been developed in more than 40 countries causing social phenomena in Japan and throughout the world. Vans has teamed up with Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon in a collection that reflects the same resiliency and inclusive spirit seen today in Vans’ team rider Lizzie Armanto.

The footwear range offers three Vans Skate Classics styles adorned with black and white graphic collages depicting Sailor Moon and Sailor Guardians. The Skate Old Skool and Skate Slip-On combine heritage styling and a punk inspired theme.

The crown jewel of the footwear collection, The Lizzie is given the full Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon treatment. Created to provide something else entirely for a wider range of skateboarders whose needs are not being met, The Lizzie features a new vulcanized construction with a lower profile sidewall foxing tape, an exposed radiused outsole edge, and flex grooves for a stable, broken-in feel. The universal fit features the perfect amount of EcoCush™ cushioning, increasing boardfeel for a wider range of skaters. A new 3D Embossed DURACAP™ toe and Sidestripe has even more durability in high-wear areas, while an all-new micro-waffle tread and Sick-Stick™ rubber offers maximum grip.

Carrying over to an apparel offering, the Vans x Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Collection by Lizzie Armanto features a similar aesthetic in black-and-white tones across a BFF-fit hoodie with anime illustrations on the front and Checkerboard detailing on the sleeves, and a reversible bucket hat with a Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon logo patch on a solid black colorway, and Checkerboard detailing and Vans logo patch on the reverse side.

A true embodiment of Vans’ DNA, Lizzie Armanto is an icon of originality and positivity. With her down-to-earth, fashion-forward, barrier-breaking approach, it’s no wonder Lizzie has become a role model to skateboarders around the world. Moving to Santa Monica at age 14, Lizzie quickly became a fixture at local skate park The Cove. While she spent every day refining her skateboarding skills, she never imagined it as a career for herself. It is perhaps this humble attitude along with her unrelenting drive that has paved the way for the iconic milestones she’s achieved today. From being the first female to complete Tony Hawk’s 360 Loop, to gracing the covers of TransWorld Skateboarding and Thrasher, and recently competing on the world stage at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Lizzie is setting the tone for a revolution the skateboarding world’s been waiting for.

The Vans x Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Collection by Lizzie Armanto will be available beginning June 10, 2022, at Vans retail locations and at vans.com.

Vans presents CREDITS: An All-Women’s Skate Film by Shari White

Vans is proud to present Credits, a full-length skateboarding film featuring an all-women’s cast, shot and directed by filmmaker and skateboarder Shari White. Watch the live world premiere and Q&A session on Youtube.com/Vans beginning 4/21 at 12pm PST.

Just under a year in the making, Credits celebrates the diverse energy and personalities of the global women’s skate community. With a talented cast led by three underground favorites — Una Farrar, Breana Geering, and Fabiana Delfino —the film highlights the unique, individual style and expression of a group of friends that skate, hang and travel together.

Credits marks an important milestone for the women’s skateboarding community, exposing a title that in jest challenges the idea that women have often only been showcased in the “credits” section of skate videos. Here, in stark contrast to the former status quo, Una, Breana and Fabiana emerge, gracing the screen with full, complete parts in their own major video.

“Everyone had the opportunity to film their best skating over the past year, with their homies cheering them on,” film director White said of the project. “That is what skateboarding is all about! The laughter and friendship, along with the battles—I hope viewers get a sense of that feeling.”

The film includes cameo appearances from Vans team riders and friends, Beatrice Domond, Cher Strauberry, Clara Solar, Poppy Olsen (who also serves as the film’s art director), Helena Long, Adelaide Norris, Dayana Young and director Shari White herself.

Credits is just some best friends having a good time and making a skate video,” added Geering.

Credits was shot in 4:3 with a mix of HD and Super 8, with footage captured across the US and Canada, in addition to Melbourne, Australia and Barcelona, Spain between April 2019 and March 2020.

Vans invites all ghouls, ghosts and goblins to celebrate the holidays with Halloween Town’s most beloved characters, announcing the release of a special collection inspired by Disney Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas”. With a 10-piece footwear offering complimented by a range of apparel and accessories, Vans designers highlight a variety of film moments and character bounding interpretations that honors Vans and Disney’s long collaboration. Disney bounding fans can channel the film’s beloved couple, Jack Skellington and Sally. The Pumpkin King’s ghostly suit including cat and bat wing applique is mimicked on the Classic Slip-On, while Dr. Finkelstein’s master humanoid creation, Sally, receives her very own Era Stacked silhouette and Sally Patchwork Crew. Inspired by her very creation, each style is collaged with various prints from her dress while the Era Stacked features hand-stitched detailed as a nod to Sally’s unique beauty.

The Classic Slip-On and long sleeve tee will showcase emblematic elements from Oogie Boogie’s underground lair, including dice and skull graphics on the sidewall and sleeves of each silhouette. Honoring his place in the moonlit night, fans will find Oogie Boogie’s shadow peeking from the sidewall of the Classic Slip-On. Not to be forgotten, Oogie Boogie’s trio of henchmen – Lock, Shock and Barrel can be found on the Old Skool and panels of an Era.

Vans will combine all-day comfort and classic style with the ComfyCush Authentic which will feature all of the characters from the film layered on a Checkerboard backdrop. Vans x Vivienne Westwood – Anglomania Collection (9.20.19)

FA19_VW_ClassicSlipOn_00288

Vans, the original action sports brand and advocate for creative expression, have joined forces with British fashion house Vivienne Westwood to create a footwear capsule collection that champions fearless individualism and liberation.  The Vans x Vivienne Westwood Anglomania collection will launch in stores and online September 20.

The exclusive collection reinterprets iconic Westwood archive prints, graphics and design notes of the house for six of Vans Classic silhouettes; As a nod to each brand’s birthplace, the Sk8-Hi features embossed markings of a handwritten letter sent from Southern California to Vivienne Westwood’s flagship boutique at 44 Conduit St., London. The Sk8-Hi is outfitted with a natural vegetable dye tan leather, printed postage stamp listing the collaboration launch date and a leather-bound outsole.

The Sk8-Hi Platform compliments the collection and is inspired by Vivienne Westwood’s Pirate boot – first presented in 1981 as part of the legendary Piratecollection. The Sk8-Hi Platform adopts key design notes from the iconic Vivienne Westwood Pirate boot – including the tan vegetable dye buckled strap across the high-top form.

Uniting the history of both brands, the Checkerboard Slip-On features Vans’ Checkerboard pattern layered with the Vivienne Westwood DESTROY graphic – brand signatures that both debuted in 1977. Westwood upholds the intent of the ever-changing Checkerboard by subverting the design to include larger scale checks applied diagonally on the vamp.

Selected from Vans ‘90s archives, the collection reintroduces Style #53. The loafer style slip-on features black suede uppers, black lugged outsole and is finished with a Vivienne Westwood multi-colored metal orb.

Rounding out the Vans x Vivienne Westwood Anglomania collection are the Old Skool and Authentic styles which showcase the Vivienne Westwood Orb and Lightning Bolt print from the collection of house prints. The Old Skool is outfitted in oxblood suede and canvas with contrasting mustard stitching and gum sole. Vans’ original deck shoe, the Authentic, is presented in a new vivid sky-blue colorway made exclusively for this collaboration. Each of these styles are finished with a “VW” monogram.
