Vans Japan – Old Skool Zipper (Japan Exclusive!)

Words via Hypebeast:

“Adding a zipper to a shoe is nothing new for Vans, but in the most recent iteration of the classic Old Skool, a zipper is seen replacing the laces all together. It’s a design made to satisfy the lazy wearer, meeting them somewhere halfway between a slip-on and the original. An added detail is seen on the reinforcement of the zipper, where OFF THE WALL has been printed.”

These zip-up Old Skools are available at Japanese retailers now, for ¥8,000 JPY (approximately $73 USD).

Vans Japan x DELUXE – Classic Velvet Slip-On “Dragon” (June 2018)

Vans teams up with Japanese luxury brand DELUXE, to create this amazing all black Classic Slip-On, in an all velvet upper, featuring a tonal black embroidered dragon on each toe.  Minimal branding can be found in the footbed of the shoe, while the only other standout feature we can see so far is the red leather heel pad.  Check for these on DELUXE’s webstore, this weekend, June 16th.

Vans Japan x Alexander Lee Chang – BOA Sk8-Hi (Japan exclusive!)

Words via Hypebeast:

“Alexander Lee Chang has linked up with Vans once again to offer a creative spin on yet another classic silhouette. A year ago to the day, we got a look at their collaborative “Boa Skool” creation, in which the Tokyo-based artist applied a Boa lacing system to a two-toned black and blue Old Skool silhouette.

This time around, Chang opts for the cult classic Sk8-Hi model — choosing once more to apply the same distinct lacing mechanism to the Vans hi-top. Seen above rocking a core black base, ample doses of white brighten up the somber palette, as shown in the exposed stitching, signature side stripe and midsole. Priced at ¥22,680 JPY (approximately $208 USD), the Alexander Lee Chang x Vans “Boa Top” is expected to arrive sometime in November, but is now available for pre-order at Shelter.”

As well as the new silhouette, the two brands have also teamed up on an apparel capsule consisting of co-branded T-shirts and longsleeves featuring Vans’ classic “Off The Wall” slogan. The full collection will drop at SOPH.’s physical store on March 31, before arriving at the brand’s web store on April 2.”

Vans Japan x Mooneyes – Half Cab & Slip-On (12.3.17 exclusively at The Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show)

vans-mooneyes-2017-01

Vans Japan and Mooneyes team up once again, to release a really cool pack for this year’s 26th annual Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show.

The collaboration offers a vintage motorsports inspired mixture of sneakers, apparel and accessories. The most popular item will most likely be the Half Cab, which you may recall seeing our pic of the huge sz66 version that was sitting in SVD’s office when we took a visit to the new Vans HQ.  The colorway is similar to last year’s Sk8-Hi, with the same all-over graphic print.  There is also a Slip-On that features a large blank area on the toe, for you to customize with stickers that are also included with the shoe.  Pretty dope, right?!  There will also be a few apparel pieces at the show.  The Half Cab is priced at ¥10,000 JPY ($90 USD), while the Slip-Ons will retail for ¥8,000 JPY ($72 USD).

If you plan on making the trip to this year’s show, then stop by the Vans booth where icon Steve Van Doren and skating legend Steve Caballero will be present!

Vans Japan x Deluxe – Authentic (4.29.17)

http _hypebeast.com_image_2017_04_deluxe-vans-authentic-09

Here’s another Vans shoe releasing for the Japan market, this time with luxury brand Deluxe.  They chose to use the Era (CO.JP as we like to call this particular shape), featuring a slightly rounder toe, lower foxing height, and an overall shape that seems to be used quite a bit in Japan.  Yes, for all you new Vans fans, there are different types of Vans in Japan, and no, they’re not fake.  Deluxe went with a traditional canvas mock-up, in two classic colorways, while featuring a few checkerboard hits throughout the shoe, mainly on the tongue, heel strip, and the footbed heel pad.  A little bit of checkerboard goes a long way, and too much can sometimes be obnoxious.  The foxing scene sees a classic Vans director logo, slightly modified for Deluxe.  The final feature is the gel-clear waffle soles, featuring the same custom director logo.  These will be available from Deluxe on April 29th, for ¥9,000 JPY.

Vans Japan x Sasquatchfabrix x Beams – Old Skool (5.3.17)

Vans Japan and Beams have teamed up with Sasquatchfabrix, to bring to you this nice and simple Old Skool.  Featuring the classic suede/canvas combo that us traditionalists love, the shoe’s main color choice is white, but with a slightly contrasting natural white suede.  Red accents can be found on the foxing stripe, and tongue label.  The unique feature on this shoe, which we’ve recently learned about, is the elastic woven straps above the tongue.  We haven’t seen this before!  Not much more to say about these, but FYI they’re a Japan exclusive.
