Vans Skate x Sci-Fi Fantasy – Skate Half Cab & Skate Sid (12.8.22)

https-__hypebeast.com_image_2022_12_vans-sci-fi-fantasy-half-cab-skate-sid-release-date-1

info via Hypebeast:

“Following up on its ’90s tech-inspired collaboration from 2020, Jerry Hsu‘s Sci-Fi Fantasy is leaping back into the sneaker ring to reunite with Vans Skateboarding for a second initiative. This time around, the skater and photographer elected to rework the Skate Half Cab ’92 VCU and Skate Sid VCU models with luxe materials and bold accents.

Starting out with the Skate Half Cab ’92 VCU, the kicks are anchored by their Eden green suede upper overlays that are attached to the toe boxes and quarter panels. Chinese letters are another primary design element of the kicks as they are printed in tonal fashion across the collars and mid-foot windows, as well as the heels in a bold, flame-y orange tone. Extra hits arrive by way of exposed white stitchings that outline each of the base layer’s panels.

The Skate Sid VCU pair in this assemblage is constructed with a more elevated presentation. Uppers are fitted with stark black cracked leather which also is accessorized with angelic stitchings. Flying V insignias that rest on the mid-foot along with the “Vans Sci-Fi” co-branding on the tongues each stand out with more fiery essence as well.”

Select Vans Skateboarding retailers are set to drop this collection on December 8, 2022.

Vans Skate x Victoria – Skate Half Cab (11.12.22)

https-__hypebeast.com_image_2022_11_victoria-vans-half-cab-release-info-001

info via Hypebeast:

“Founded in 2015, Hong Kong-based skate brand VICTORIA has built itself around the unique juxtaposition of the East and West cultures found in the city. The inspiration is expressed in a visual representation that incorporates traditional local elements and reinterprets them in novel contemporary ways.

Continuing its efforts of furthering the Asian creative landscape and skate community, VICTORIA has come together with Vans Skateboarding for a Skate Half Cab collaboration. The take on the iconic footwear silhouettes is marked by a celebration of the urban jungle of Hong Kong.

VICTORIA explored the high energy and precision footwork similarly needed for both shuttlecock and skateboarding. The VICTORIA x Vans Skate Half Cab features tonal black suede uppers accented by mid panels marked with illustrations of the dynamic root systems of banyan trees seen along the playgrounds of local shuttlecock players and skate spots in the city. Additional detailing comes in the form of contrasting orange eyelets, co-branded Half Cab labels, tongue tags, and heel license plates, specially printed insoles, and “VICTORIA” debossed at the heel panels. Elevating the uppers are black midsoles with matching foxing and bright orange rubber waffle outsoles.”

The VICTORIA x Vans Skate Half Cab collaboration will be available via Vans Hong Kong and VICTORIA November 12.

Vans Skate x Humidity Skate Shop – Half Cab Sentry GTX (10.7.22)

HO22_Humidity_HalfCab_30th_2268

Humidity has been stomping the streets of New Orleans since 1996, so to say they’re familiar with the rugged streets of the Big Easy (and its climate) is an understatement. When you live, skate, tag, and create in New Orleans, you need a sneaker that’s as unique, proud, and sturdy as the city itself, so Vans Skateboarding and Humidity have joined forces for the do-anything Skate Half Cab Sentry GTX.

A blacked-out silhouette that Humidity proudly states is “built for ANY situation,” the Skate Half Cab Sentry GTX is a mash up of Vans Skateboarding footwear. That’s to say Humidity’s owner Phillip Santosuosso pulled in bits and pieces from across Vans’ skate lineup to create something new and unexpected.

Featuring a blacked-out color scheme, the Vans Skateboarding x Humidity Skate Half Cab Sentry GTX upgrades the classic Half Cab silhouette with a fully waterproof GORE-TEX membrane and a lugged Wafflecup sole. It’s half sneaker and half boot, and it leans further into its tactical-and-technical styling with daisy-chain heel webbing plus reflective boot laces.

The details don’t stop there either, as the upper boasts an embossed Half Cab print and an oversized, reflective GORE-TEX logo that wraps around the heel to let everyone know that you’re not playing around no matter how intense the weather gets. A finishing touch is provided by a fully functional tongue pull with Humidity branding that sits atop the classic Half Cab tongue tag.

The Vans Skateboarding X Humidity Skate Half Cab Sentry GTX will release at Humidity Skate Shop on Friday, October 7, then hit select Vans Skateboarding retailers on October 19.

Vans Skate x Bruce Lee – Collection (Available Now!)

DualShot

DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission.

Vans Skate has joined forces with the Bruce Lee estate, to bring us this super dope collaboration.  First introduced to us by Steve Caballero, via his own website, we now have a wider release available to us, for this awesome pack.  We get two shoes here, a Skate Half Cab, as well as the instantly-popular Skate Half Cab, which sold out damn near instantly on Cabbie’s webstore.

When you visualize Bruce Lee, you immediately think of the iconic Game of Death outfit, and that’s the inspiration that this pack was designed around.  The Skate Old Skool is done up in mostly black suede, but features a large photo graphic on each side panel.  Yellow accents can be found on the inside lining as well as the foxing stripe.  The Skate Half Cab features a primarily yellow suede, mixed with black.  Also, Steve Caballero allowed the iconic Half Cab logo to be replaced with a Bruce Lee flying kick logo.  The entire shoe is very Wu-Tang-esque if you ask us!  Both pairs finish off nicely with a debossed Bruce Lee quote on the sidewall, that reads “Be water, my friend.”

Both pairs are showing as available on the Vans site.  Both pairs retail for $90 each.  Click on the pic above or HERE to support UTP and purchase them from Vans.

Vans Skateboarding Presents ‘Onward’: An All-New Skate Film from Lizzie Armanto

Lizzie’s first full-length edit in nearly five years highlights her one-of-a-kind style and solidifies her position among skateboarding’s best

Watch the Global Digital Premiere of ‘Onward’ today

at 5 PM PST

Those who know Vans pro skateboarder Lizzie Armanto, know that her barrier-breaking approach to skateboarding has shifted the landscape. Her accolades, like appearing on the world stage to represent the sport, speak for themselves and make her a role model for skateboarders everywhere. Expanding on her list of accomplishments, Vans, the global leader in skateboarding for more than 50 years, is proud to unveil a fresh angle on Lizzie’s world-class skateboarding in a new film, Onward, directed by celebrated filmmaker Greg Hunt and filmed by master lensmen Chris Gregson and TJ Gaskill.

The first full-length edit from Lizzie in nearly five years, Onward showcases what Lizzie has become known for—her humble, hard-working approach, one-of-a-kind style, and tenacity to make any trick a reality.

“It’s been incredible to see Lizzie overcome her injuries and get to where she’s at now,” Hunt said. “And it’s so much fun to work with Chris Gregson’s and TJ Gaskill’s footage. I’m really excited to see this come together.”

The goal was to create a film as visually exciting as Lizzie’s skating, adds Gregson, noting that they drew inspiration from her love for traveling, which is represented in the various locations Onward was filmed, as well as spending time with a close-knit group of her friends and fellow skateboarders. Featuring appearances from Mami Tezuka and Axel Cruysberghs, the film drives home Lizzie’s gratitude to the skate community and her ultimate support system of friends and family.

In anticipation of the film’s premiere, Lizzie shared the following about what the project has meant to her: In the past, filming felt like I was trying to prove I was ‘good enough’. I feel like this part has been about proving that to myself, and that I am stronger than my injuries. Everyone involved in the project has been a huge motivator. We kept the crew small. My favorite thing is that everyone’s passionate about what they’re doing, and it’s been contagious.”

Earlier this season, Vans and Lizzie dropped a new, head-to-toe collection that leads with her first signature skateboarding silhouette, The Lizzie. The offering opens the aperture on what inclusive, all-gender footwear and apparel looks like, and reinforces that skateboarding should be open to everyone.

Tune in at 5 PM today at vans.com/lizzie for the global premiere of Vans Skateboarding’s Onward, featuring Lizzie Armanto.

Red lava flow from black volcanic ground on melted dark background

Vans Skateboarding has joined forces once more with Dime on a fresh design of the Skate Half Cab™ ‘92. Drawing influence from all aspects of creative exploration and DIY culture, Vans Skate Half Cab 92 represents skateboarding’s past, present, and future. Adding its signature touch, Dime’s iteration of the shoe lets the iconic silhouette do the heavy lifting.

Sitting comfortably at the intersection of fashion and skateboarding, Dime takes cues from an oxford tan palette for this latest collaboration, with tonal stitching and branding across the tongue, quarter panel and eyelet hangtag. Dime started as a small crew of skate kids filming clips in their hometown of Montreal, Canada, and quickly grew into one of skateboarding’s most influential brands. Known to put humor first, Dime’s skate videos have a nostalgic ‘90s aesthetic that win the hearts of skateboarders globally. Vans Skate x Labor Skateshop – “Sewer Gator” Skate Half Cab (8.18.22)

FA22_Skate_HalfCab_Labor_Green_Outside_9586

From aggressive pigeons with no regard for personal space to adventurous pizza-dragging rats, New York City’s fauna is surrounded by legendary lore and plenty of tall tales. None of these creatures, however, can match the century-old Big Apple myth of “sewer gators” — mythological reptiles that slither through the city’s dank underbelly, feasting on rats and rubbish while terrorizing hapless municipal workers. Now, NYC-based Labor Skate Shop is giving these crawlin’ critters a rare above-ground moment by using them as inspiration for a duo of Skate Half Cabs with Vans Skateboarding.

Arriving in “Croc Green” and a “Croc Charcoal,” the Vans Skateboarding x Labor Skate Shop Skate Half Cab boasts a scaly crocodile print, custom Labor Skate Shop badges on its lateral quarter panel and classic Steve Caballero branding. On the “Croc Green,” dark green nubuck and scaly green laces offer a two-tone take on the reptilian look, while the textured detailing on the “Croc Charcoal” is given free rein over the entirety of the upper. Both pairs also feature a high-gloss jet black midsole and Vans Skateboarding’s signature performance tech; like a recut DURACAP™ underlay, POPCUSH™ sockliners for superior cushioning and impact protection and a SICKSTICK™ rubber compound plus an internal heel shank, all of which work together to deliver grip, boardfeel, support, and durability.

The Vans Skateboarding x Labor Skate Shop Skate Half Cab will be released exclusively at Labor Skate Shop on August 18, with a retail price of $90.

An all-ages launch party for the Vans Skateboarding x Labor Skate Shop Skate Half Cab will also go down from 6 PM to 10 PM at Vans’ Skate Space 198 in Brooklyn on August 18, complete with a best trick contest and the introduction of a new gator-inspired skate obstacle.

Vans Skate x Mike Gigliotti – Collection (7.29.22)

FA22_SKATE_HalfCab_01_Mike_Gigliotti_Navy_OutsideDISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission.

The artist, designer, and skater extraordinaire brings his signature illustrations to the Skate Half Cab and Skate Old Skool plus a Trek Slip-On and matching apparel/accessories.

Artist, designer, skateboarder, and Vans family member Mike Gigliotti is steeped in skate culture. He’s done everything from creating famous board graphics to working with Vans on special collections and open Lotties Skateshop in Los Angeles, one of the West Coast’s most influential skateboarding hubs. Gigliotti is “Off the Wall” through and through, so he’s the perfect partner to reimagine Vans Skateboarding silhouettes, both classic and contemporary, in a new co-created collection.

At the heart of the Vans Skateboarding x Mike Gigliotti collection is the Skate Half Cab, an upgraded version of Steve Caballero’s iconic signature model celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2022. It’s dressed in a familiar two-tone blue color scheme that’s offset by pops of bright red plus a white midsole and laces. Gigliotti knows you don’t need to tamper with a classic too much, so he’s added his custom graphics onto the lateral collar’s tag, debossed them on the heel and tucked them away on the insole’s all-over print as well, letting the familiar mid-cut silhouette speak for itself.

The Half Cab may opt for a more minimalist approach, but the rest of the footwear and apparel in the Vans Skateboarding x Mike Gigliotti collection is awash in colorful prints and patterns. From skulls to barbed wire, roses, and spectral figures, the Skate Old Skool is loaded up with Gigliotti’s signature hand-drawn graphics. It also features a blue/black color scheme that blends two classic Old Skool colorways, split by a red Jazz Stripe. For a finishing touch, insoles boast a cheeky full-color graphic. Both the Skate Half Cab and Skate Old Skool utilize Vans Skateboarding’s finest tech, like responsive, drop-in PopCush midsoles, extra-rugged Duracap midsoles and classic gum rubber outsoles that use a grippy SickStick compound for ultimate board feel.

You’ve got to have your “chillers” to match your skate footwear, so the Vans Skateboarding x Mike Gigliotti collection also heads to the beach with a Trek Slip-On in black that features an all-over red graphic print. This perfect après-skate footwear option is accompanied by matching boardshorts and a beach towel.

The Vans Skateboarding x Mike Gigliotti collection will be released via vans.com/skateboarding and select Vans Skateboarding stockists on July 29. Prices range from $45 to $85.
