Flying Dog Brewery – “Year of the Flying Dog” Sk8-Hi (Free give-away!) #YearOfTheFlyingDog @FlyingDog

Vans Bar Shot

Here’s something for all of you (and us) craft brew enthusiasts out there!  Frederick, Maryland’s very own Flying Dog Brewery has come out with their Flying Dog Sk8-Hi, featuring custom artwork by the iconic artist Ralph Steadman, who you may recall from his illustrations in Hunter S. Thompson’s 1971 novel “Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas“.  That’s not the only thing that adds to the coolness of these Sk8-Hi’s!  Although this isn’t the first time we’ve seen an alcoholic beverage brand on the side of a pair of Vans (i.e. Coors Light, Coors Extra Gold, and Pabst, to name a few), this IS the first pair of Vans created by a craft brewery, so that’s something yeah?  Oh, did we mention that there’s only 50 pairs made?  Did we also mention that Flying Dog is going to be giving them away through their social media and you’ll also have a second chance by signing up on their website?  Who doesn’t love free Vans?!  Also, according to the pics, these appear to be a Vault OG release, by way of the “ORIGINALS” heeltab.  If they are in fact LX’s, then that’s just icing on the cake for us Vans snobs!

Here’s a little excerpt from Flying Dog:

“Good Beer. No Shit.” It’s not just a mantra; it courses through our veins. It’s everything we stand for. What is it for you that makes you stand tall and stick it to the man?  We kind-of had to do something awesome for the #yearofthedog, so we’re giving away 50 pairs of limited-edition #Vans #Sk8-Hi ‘s designed by Flying Dog. You want in? We thought so.

Vault by Vans x SpongeBob SquarePants – Capsule Collection (2.24.18)

Info via Vans:

This spring, Vault by Vans partners with Nickelodeon’s incurably optimistic, pineapple-living, jellyfish-loving SpongeBob SquarePants, celebrating his infectious happiness through the premium Vault by Vans label to present a robust collection of footwear, apparel and skate decks featuring kitschy renditions of the characters we know and love.

“SpongeBob SquarePants is loved by trendsetters around the world, but this limited-edition collaboration elevates his style even further, offering something new and unique for his audience” said Jose Castro, SVP of Nickelodeon Soft Lines Licensing and Global Fashion Collaborations. “Vault by Vans has combined our iconic SpongeBob characters with its iconic aesthetic and we think fans of all ages are going to love the result.”

For SpongeBob SquarePants’ grand Vault by Vans debut, the limited-edition partnership introduces six footwear styles on Vans classic silhouettes – the Sk8-Hi, Authentic and Slip-On, available in both adult, youth and toddler sizing. Each style showcases vibrant under-the-sea scenes including original illustrations of SpongeBob SquarePants, his best friend Patrick, and the squashed antagonist Plankton, on Vans signature rubber waffle outsoles.

In addition to the footwear, Vault by Vans will offer a bright assortment of apparel, complete with a Vans x SpongeBob track pant, which features a bold checkerboard pattern with graphic detailing. The apparel styles include two classic short-sleeve tees and a long-sleeve tee featuring an array of designs ranging from an embroidered SpongeBob character to a graphic of Patrick holding his skateboard. To round out the collection, Vault by Vans will showcase a limited-run of three skate decks, highlighting corresponding prints and patterns from the overall design theme.

The Vault by Vans x SpongeBob SquarePants collection retails from $45 to $260 and launches globally on February 24, 2018 at select Vault accounts. Visit Dover Street Market for unique in-store displays, designed specifically for each location. Learn more about this special project at

Vault by Vans – OG Style 238 LX (Feb. 2018)

Accompanying the OG Old Skool LX’s for this month’s OG Vault release, we also get these amazing OG Style 238 LX’s aka the Native American.  These take you back to the late 80’s to early 90’s.  Beefed up with extra protection, the Style 238 was designed with the vert and pool skaters in mind, and featured a rubber toe cap, and rubberized ollie pad.  Since Long Beach’s very own Vault by Vans dealer Proper’s reintroduction of the shoe about a decade ago, the Style 138 has only popped up a few times, most notably with the Supreme versions, which took inspiration from original colorways from the old Vans Made In The USA archive.  These are a nice addition to that legacy, and the color and suede/canvas material combo makes them look like they are right from that same era.  Great job with these, Vans designers!  Once again, thank you General Admission for the pics!

Vault by Vans – OG Old Skool LX (Feb. 2018)

Check out the latest round of Vault OG Old Skool LX’s to drop.  Although, the collection has been mostly under wraps, I feel that this pack will not be around for long.  They’ve finally answered our cries for an OG Old Skool in the classic black/white colorway with contrast white stitching, aka the “GR”, aka the “One You Buy For Your Kids”, aka the “Basic Bitch” lol.  Now, you can step your game up and get on board with something that only us Vans snobs care about!  They’re done up in the classic suede/canvas material combo that the OG Old Skool LX is known for, and the colors.  Whew, the colors people!!!  Check out that dope Ashrose/Black pair.  Very similar to the ArcAd x Santa Cruz pair.  If you missed out on that one, then get these.  The Black/White is a must, and the Marshmallow/Light Gum is a little out of left field, but if you’ve ever had a pair of gum sole Vans, you’ll appreciate how clean they stay, or appear to stay at least.  These are starting to pop up at various Vault dealers, so I won’t shout out any specific shops, but I will give credit to Feature, and General Admission for the pics.  Thanks guys in advance!

Vault by Vans x Blends – Sk8-Hi Reissue Zip LX Pony Hair Bones (1.6.18) @blendsus #blendsvans

Blends, teams up with Vans Vault once again to release a special “Pony hair” rendition of the original “Bone Jazz-Stripe” Sk8-Hi Reissue Zip LX. The duo maintain the color palette of the very first Vans Vault x Blends project which features supple premium Black cowhide leather uppers accented with natural-colored Pony Hair details on the tongue lining and the Bone Jazz Stripe that sits atop a solid All-White sole unit with a Black Waffle outsole. The shoes will be available Saturday, January 6th, exclusively through Blends’ six store locations as well as their webstore

Pricing hasn’t been set just yet, but past Sk8-Hi Bones releases have been in the $160 range, but not like it matters, cause #blendsvans!  If this is to be the last Bones Vans to come out of Blends (as rumors have floated around), then why not go out with an ode to a super dope and original idea, paying homage to what we call the “OG Blends” with the black leather and white bones jazz stripe.  These will surely be hyped, limited, and gone instantly.  Good luck!

LBIFBACK Shoe Review: Vans Vault x Taka Hayashi “Horween” TH OG Sk8-Mid LX (Bison/Natural)

Another great and informative video review by the homie akamedaniel, aka LBIFBACK.  No frills.  No fuccboi shit “all up in the video”.  The way we like to see a video review done!

Vault by Vans x Taka Hayashi – Horween Sk8-Mid LX & Old Skool LX (Holiday 2017)

Taka Hayashi’s next collection from Vault by Vans is due out anytime now, and a few shops have already started receiving pairs.  This time around, Taka took on the Old Skool LX and Sk8-Mid LX, doing them up in Horween pebbled leather.  I want to say these are buffalo leathers, since the look and texture of them is similar to the Proper collab.  The Old Skool comes in a simple black colorway with light tan jazz stripes, and the Sk8-Mid comes in a two-tone brown and black, and is constructed in the vintage Made In USA silhouette that the Our Legacys also chose.  Both pairs feature a new “rising sun” Taka Hayashi  tongue label, and the Taka license plate heel tabs that we’re used to.  The pack is really nice, and is available now or very soon at your local Vault dealer.

UTP Review: Vault by Vans x END Clothing – “Nordic Wool” OG Old Skool LX

It’s been ages since I’ve been able to sit down and write up a personal review on a sneaker release, but you’ve caught me on a good week and I’m in the mood to do one, so here goes!

Today we are reviewing END Clothing’s first official Vault by Vans collab, as far as I know.  I’ve been sharing Vans collabs for many years and I don’t have anything documented, and THE Google doesn’t find anything either!  With that being said, we are seeing the results of a brand that knows things.  END has been a Vault dealer for a long time, and they have to have a pretty good finger on the pulse of what Vans enthusiasts want, as well as what their clientele want.  They’ve managed to create something that’s unique, timeless, and high fashion without adding any gimmicks or trends.  Unique, because of the material and patterns used.  Timeless, because of the simple black and marshmallow colorways chosen, and high fashion because of the premium soft supple leather that was chosen for each shoe.  Not to mention, the packaging.  Each raffle-drawn winner received their pair in a custom velveteen wrapped box, with the custom knitted V print and END Clothing logo front and center.  Another unique aspect of the release.  One of my favorite subtle features, is the white contrasting foxing stripe, set in between the marshmallow sidewall foxing.  There is also minimal END branding on the footbed, just to let you know whose collab this is.  Each pair comes with a set of wide flat nylon laces, as well as a set of nylon paracord laces.  Either one is fine with me.

I’d like to say that this release kind of just showed up out of nowhere.  No big hype behind it, but END released both pairs through their online raffle system, and they sold out!  Congratulations on that one!  These are one of those pairs that you don’t really give it a thought, until you either see some up close detailed shots of the material and true colors, or you see them on somebody’s feet.  Either way, you’ll have to wait to find your pair through the grubby little hands of a reseller now.  I’d like to thank Simon at END, and Nick at Vans UK for the always appreciated support!

Vault by Vans x Wood Wood – OG Old Skool LX (11.30.17)

In the final collaborative project as part of their 15 year celebration, Wood Wood has teamed up with Vans to create a twist on the classic Old Skool silhouette. The result is two pairs juxtaposing each other as whites, greys and black mix with the brown tones of natural gum forming two simple but striking colorways.  “A tribute to adolescent behaviour and attitude” says W.W. designer Brian SS Jensen, referencing the scribbles on the sidewalls of the sole units, which adds a bit of youthful verve to the shoes.

The shoes will be sold in limited quantities exclusively at W.W. stores and at from Thursday November 30.
