This December, Vans taps trailblazing rapper Tierra Whack for a uniquely creative collection of footwear and apparel designed by Tierra Whack in collaboration with her longtime stylist Shirley Kurata. The creative vision of Tierra Whack brought to life in Vans footwear and apparel, Vans x Tierra Whack collection blends a radical take on 1980s style with key elements of Vans brand heritage for a truly unique expression of design outside the lines.

Adapting the rapper’s irreverent approach to music and fashion, Vans x Tierra Whack is a mélange of colors, shapes, patterns, and phrases that explores limitless creativity. That freedom sees Whack and her longtime collaborator, Shirley Kurata, inject the collection with an inspiring sense of play, rendering each style singularly ‘Whack’. Over shared histories and a wealth of clashing and coinciding references, Whack and Kurata infuse the collection with the positive energy of self-expression.

“It was an amazing experience to be able to take what I do with music and apply it to fashion,” said Whack. “Making music is all about collaboration and it was great to work with Shirley and with Vans to give people a collection they can feel free in.”

The Vans x Tierra Whack Old Skool and Style 36, lead the footwear collection. The Old Skool features oversized and multicolored “WHACK” stamped on the quarter, echoed on the sidewall which reads “Weird Hype And Creative Kids”. This Old Skool was first released as part of a promotional run of shoes that Tierra created for her fans during a 2019 House of Vans Philadelphia performance and will be re-released as part of this collection. Meanwhile, the Style 36 plays with graphic contrasts, pairing a soft eco-suede classic white upper with pops of blue on the sidewall and oversized puffy laces looping through the collection’s signature “Weird Hype And Creative Kids” eyelets.

The Vans x Tierra Whack Half Cab provides Whack’s own spin on the Vans Classic, blending unexpected colorways and clashing Vans checkerboards in shades of yellow, green, red, black and white. Featuring a soft eco-suede upper and a rubberized checkerboard toe cap, the collection’s Half Cab comes complete with a secondary oversized green fuzzy lace and eyelets that read “Weird Hype And Creative Kids,” celebrating fans and followers of Tierra and her irreverent personal style. Contrasting left and right sockliners in blue and green decorate the insoles, while the tongue lining label features Whack’s signature in script, and a unique crystal bottom grass completes the style.

A truly ‘Whack’ standout from the collection is the Vans x Tierra Whack Standard Snow MTE, vibrant all-over in head-turning Cyber Yellow. Adapted from Vans’ ‘Made for the Elements’ line, the weather-ready style features a full patent leather upper, mid-calf silhouette, and black lug outsole to take to the streets come rain or shine, making it the sure rulebreaker of the pack.

A selection of apparel curated by Whack and Kurata complements the collection featuring styles including the Vans x Tierra Whack Twofer, a heavy cotton ringer tee with contrasting printed long-sleeves and a message from Tierra that reads “It’s Okay to Cry”. A Vans Authentic Chino with wide cuffed hems and packable puffer vest round out the apparel, while a reversible cotton ripstop bucket hat tops it all off, making a fully head-to-toe look.

Vans x Tierra Whack is available on Vans.com and at select Vans retailers beginning December 3, 2021.

Vans presents CREDITS: An All-Women’s Skate Film by Shari White

Vans is proud to present Credits, a full-length skateboarding film featuring an all-women’s cast, shot and directed by filmmaker and skateboarder Shari White. Watch the live world premiere and Q&A session on Youtube.com/Vans beginning 4/21 at 12pm PST.

Just under a year in the making, Credits celebrates the diverse energy and personalities of the global women’s skate community. With a talented cast led by three underground favorites — Una Farrar, Breana Geering, and Fabiana Delfino —the film highlights the unique, individual style and expression of a group of friends that skate, hang and travel together.

Credits marks an important milestone for the women’s skateboarding community, exposing a title that in jest challenges the idea that women have often only been showcased in the “credits” section of skate videos. Here, in stark contrast to the former status quo, Una, Breana and Fabiana emerge, gracing the screen with full, complete parts in their own major video.

“Everyone had the opportunity to film their best skating over the past year, with their homies cheering them on,” film director White said of the project. “That is what skateboarding is all about! The laughter and friendship, along with the battles—I hope viewers get a sense of that feeling.”

The film includes cameo appearances from Vans team riders and friends, Beatrice Domond, Cher Strauberry, Clara Solar, Poppy Olsen (who also serves as the film’s art director), Helena Long, Adelaide Norris, Dayana Young and director Shari White herself.

Credits is just some best friends having a good time and making a skate video,” added Geering.

Credits was shot in 4:3 with a mix of HD and Super 8, with footage captured across the US and Canada, in addition to Melbourne, Australia and Barcelona, Spain between April 2019 and March 2020.

THIS IS OFF THE WALL: Vanguards

image003

Vans, the original action sports brand and icon of creative expression, unveils the first chapter of its beloved THIS IS OFF THE WALL  campaign, exploring the identities and influences that fuel modern skate style in “Vanguards”. Expanding on Vans’ THIS IS OFF THE WALL narrative, the campaign defines what “Off The Wall” means through a diverse series of digital storytelling and immersive engagements that inspire, enable and support global creative communities. The campaign kicks off with “Vanguards”, an exploration of how style, individuality and creativity shape skateboarding through the lenses of Vans team riders Lizzie Armanto, Brighton Zeuner, Yndiara Asp and Mami Tezuka

“Everyone has their own unique approach to skating: where they grew up, who they were influenced by – it all affects how they look on a board,” said Vans team rider Lizzie Armanto. “Vanguards” showcases a remarkable roster of skateboarders and examines how the unique experiences of each athlete has defined their own sense of style on and off the board. Highlighting attributes such as Lizzie Armanto’s flowy, surf-skating form inspired by her Santa Monica roots, Brighton Zeuner’s colorful personality that parallels her bold performance, Yndiara Asp’s fearless attitude that made her a standout in the Brazilian skate scene, and Mami Tezuka’s focused sense of timing that was honed over years of studying piano in her native Japan, “Vanguards” conveys a breadth of creative interpretations all founded in skateboarding.
“Our brand’s identity is continually inspired by personalities such as the women you meet in the Vanguards campaign.” shares Erwin Federizo, Vans’ Global Executive Creative Director. “By sharing their stories, we are able to continue celebrating the unique individuals who are living and breathing Vans’ ‘Off The Wall’ ethos. Creative campaigns like this are a true testament to our purpose.”

“Vanguards” represents Vans’ commitment to supporting the longevity and growth of skateboarding. In 2018, Vans embarked on a global initiative to teach women of all ages how to skateboard through a series of skate clinics in an effort to introduce a new form of expression, while empowering the skate community through new perspectives. Vans remains committed to growing and sustaining skateboarding worldwide, hosting a brand-new series of women’s skate workshops across the globe beginning March 8, 2019, International Women’s Day. Throughout the year, Vans will also host Vanguard experiences at Vans Park Series events featuring skate clinics, photo exhibits and experiential activations curated by local athletes and the Vanguards themselves. Visit vans.com/vanguards to learn more about skate clinics near you.

“Vans extends beyond traditional campaigns by funding efforts that create meaningful interactions with loyalists and newcomers alike,” said April Vitkus, Senior Director of Vans Global Brand Marketing. “Vanguards aims to not only tell a story of four women but invites everyone to experience the creative depth that surrounds what we cherish most – skateboarding.”

“Vanguards” is the latest iteration of THIS IS OFF THE WALL with more stories to come in the months ahead; see the full campaign at vans.com/offthewall. To share your own story and join the conversation with Vans use #OffTheWall on social media.

SP17_Classics_DallasClayton_Collection_Elevated2

Vans, the original action sports footwear and apparel brand, comes together with celebrated artist and author, Dallas Clayton to present a collection of footwear inspired by the vibrant illustrations brought to life in his popular children’s books. Available for adults and children, the Vans x Dallas Clayton collection will inspire people of all ages to never stop dreaming.

Kicking off the collection are three styles for adults of all ages that illuminate Dallas’ imaginative world, combining fantasy and inspiration into three inspirational prints. On the Old Skool silhouette, Dallas chooses his signature all-over doodle print of squiggles, lines and shapes to fill the canvas. Paying homage to a pair of Vans that Dallas customized himself, the artist emphasizes an all-over rainbow design across the Authentic. Exclusive to this collection, Dallas created a custom character motif that honors Vans’ spirit to highlight a skateboarding unicorn with the positive affirmation, “Keep It Movin.”

Kids and Toddlers can dream big in four Vans footwear styles that bring Dallas Clayton’s original artwork to life. The Sk8-Hi Zip is reimagined to include colorful, out of this world unicorns while the Old Skool is transformed with Dallas’ fun-loving doodles. Vans x Natalie Westling – Sk8-Hi Reissue DX (Opening Ceremony Exclusive)

VansxNatalieWestling_3

Vans partners with Sk8-Hi brand ambassador and American model, Natalie Westling to design a custom Sk8-Hi Reissue DX that draws inspiration from her own personal approach to style with references from the ‘90s skate scene. Natalie, an Arizona native, picked up a skateboard at the age of three and has since found the striking similarities of riding atop her board and walking the runway.

“I was so honored to be a part of the Sk8-Hi campaign recently that it only felt right to choose the Sk8-Hi. All in all, I wanted to create a shoe that I could skate in but was also different from all of my other Vans.” – Natalie Westling

Taking cues from her own personal tomboy aesthetic, Natalie chose tan nubuck uppers and off-set it with a blue leather Sidestripe and hang flag. Keeping with the skate aesthetic, the Sk8-Hi Reissue DX uses a micro-mesh mini checkerboard lining that was once used in Vans’ most iconic skate silhouettes throughout the ‘90s, along with a dark gum sole. The Vans x Natalie Westling Sk8-Hi DX is finished with a custom blue footbed that is personalized with a ‘Natalie Skate’ emblem to match back to her own tattoos.

The Vans x Natalie Westling lookbook was shot by Los Angeles based photographer, Christin Rose, founder of the ‘She Plays We Win’ project geared toward celebrating the confidence that sports provides for young girls and used a group of local New York based skaters alongside Natalie. Earlier this year, Vans and Opening Ceremony partnered to launch Club USA, a dedicated shop-in-shop experience and continue their long-standing partnership with this exclusive collaboration. The Vans x Natalie Westling Sk8-Hi Reissue DX is available for $100 USD and is sold exclusively online and at all Opening Ceremony locations beginning November 1st.
