Social media has had a big influence on what vans releases. They look at what's trending, and what kids have to say about styles,patterns, etc...
I'm sure it's less if a risk for vans to release shoes compared to 5-10 years ago. Before they make shoes hoping that kids of that generation like what vans had to offer. But now they have tools like Instagram, Twitter to find out what kids really want.
Just in the past two years with the help of Instagram vans has cached on to how fast Syndicates and Vaults releases are selling and how much they are being resold for. And now they are making GR version of fans favorite syndicates.
I'm sure there is more to be said on this subject but that's my thoughts.
