Wtf is wrong with my midsoles??? I've had other recent pick ups that have this same problem so I can't be the only one. My midsole is fuckin swollen! What happened to the good old days...

I've gotten a good amount of midsoles like that over the years. Usually it's not as bad as that, but I've definitely gotten pairs that looked similar. My guess is that for some reason, they used a sole that was slightly smaller than what was needed to account for the extra padding or size variations of the shoe. It's definitely something that can be annoying, but on some pairs it works. Just gives it that certain Vans vibe I guess... haha

I see it mostly on older stuff, but to me the reason seems to be from using smaller waffle soles for that model.

Yeah, not sure how they end up using the wrong sized sole, cuz you'd think they'd have it down to a standard by now. It does add to the "each shoe is different" kind of vibe Vans often has. Some pairs it works, some pairs it doesn't, though. The most annoying case for me was when I got a pair of shoes where one shoe had it and one shoe didn't. If both have it, fine, whatever. But don't give me one of each! haha

@ Guam how old are the shoes that ur talking about? All my old syndicates 001 - 010 are pretty on point. But then again they did the midsoles different in those days.

One of my 003 Ballistic Sk8-Hi's has smaller soles on it, and my Active DSNB 1 Half Cabs have them as well. I know there's more, but those are the ones I can think of right now.

Yeah and it looks like your jj sk8 hi's have it too. I just re read the blogs about your jj restoration. Because I'm going to have to do the same thing to my pair. Just ordered my Jason markk!

I've updated my process with the Sea Glow now. That's what's needed to de-oxidize, or de-yellow them. You can use a scrubbing pad, like the green kitchen ones. It won't hurt the vulcanized rubber at all, and it actually penetrates the oxidation much better. Scrub away!
