Rocketgoof: Hit the nail on the head in my opinion. The Star Wars fans went for the GR's. Most people can't fathom paying more than the $50 they spend on Vans in a Vans store, and these are "just shoes" to them. Vans x Star Wars ain't even over yet folks. Next season is the "Dark Side" collection, remember? Disney is running full speed ahead with the newly acquired Star Wars franchise, and a section of their theme park in Anaheim, is supposed to be turned into a Star Wars land of some sort. That might get me to buy a ticket for a day! Didn't renew my pass 3 years ago, and I haven't looked back! Anyways, Star Wars is a freight train, and Vans was smart to hop aboard. Perhaps the Vault limited collection attracted a few new Vans premium fans, who never even knew about us. Serious collectors look for the rare stuff, so this definitely qualifies as that, especially with the EXTREMELY limited worldwide release.

rocketgoof wrote: Also, the subtlety of the designs and the blending of classic Vans prints might've been lost to a lot of Star Wars collectors. The Vault line was really awesome to Vans collectors because of that, but might not have been seen quite the same if you don't have any knowledge of the history of those prints. And again, 15 different designs were released in the span of a month or so! Even the most hardcore of Vans and Star Wars collectors are gonna have to pick and choose (myself included). With the higher price point of Vault, I can see a lot of Star Wars fans opting for the GR pairs with more straightforward Star Wars designs.

All things considered, if it is indeed 300 pairs per Vault style, I can see some being left over and a good chunk of resellers still having stock. Plus, OC seems to screw up a lot of things. It's plausible that they forgot how many they had in stock or something. haha
I guess? Vans made their og prints more Star Wars inclined imo. I've seen some fans make their own costumes, which could range from the $100-$1000s. I feel like die hard Star Wars fans would drop $200+ on those vault kicks, with little thought. For sure, its all personal. I guess the causal fans may, although its hard to say for sure. A hardcore fan with a decent job might buy all the drops, a more case strapped fan might only buy a gr or two.

Yea thats one good point with OC. Or maybe or maybe OC just got too many pairs? Who knows.

All good points. Well everyone made good points. I just hope Vans keeps their partnership with Star Wars and Disney. I prefer Vans' Star Wars designs vs Adidas.

Well, what I mean is that to a Star Wars fan who knows nothing about Vans, the references of those prints are completely lost on them. The SW references are so well mixed with the prints that you might not even notice that they're Star Wars if you don't look twice.

Most of my friends are of the nerdy variety who know nothing about Vans. To them, the Vaults made no sense. Especially the Miami AT-AT print (which to me, was my personal favorite! haha). So yeah, hardcore SW collectors might go after them, and cosplayers may spend a lot on their costumes, but that doesn't mean they spend as much time or money on things outside of cosplay. I have friends who have spent a good amount of time and money on costumes, but buy a pair of shoes like every 2+ years (and pride themselves on it). So, it takes all kinds, and I think with the sheer amount of GR's that were put out, even hardcore collectors and fans are probably more inclined to get those. Plus, to get every pair at just retail value, you'd have to drop close to $1300. And as mentioned, there's still more to come! Plus the clothes and accessories. Not saying there aren't SW collectors that will appreciate the Vault line, either, just saying there are a lot of factors with this release.

Also, if you start digging into the Star Wars fan side of this release online, you get a lot of pictures of the GR's with mention of the Vault release. There's no real knowledge of what Vault is or that it was an entirely separate release. So people are probably going to Journeys wondering how they haven't sold out of the 300 pairs of each style yet...

I'm sure plenty of SW fans found out about the Vault line due to these, though!

Sorry, Vans and Star Wars are two of my favorite things, so I'm probably offering way too much analysis. Just trying to offer my perspective from my experiences in both camps. haha /nerdout

How long til there's a Vans x Star Wars skatepark at DisneyLand?! ha!

Noted. Good points though.

What if they sold some exclusive Vaults at Disney? That'd be interesting to see. Vans did so many prints with Disney, I'd like to see more. On that note I wanna see a reissue of Converse's Disney shoe.

There were some Disney x Star Wars collabs a few years ago where they had Disney characters as Star Wars characters. I want some Vans in on this now! haha

Vans exclusives at Disney would be sweet. Although I'd need a proxy! Or plan a vacation around it. haha

Whoa, imperial logo on the top lacehole of that era! All of those are cool.

And thanks, Nidas! I'd definitely be hitting you up if that ever happened! haha

The Pirate Vader Sk8-Hi is pretty dope too. Wait, that's Vader right? Not just a Stormtrooper in black?
