Vans x White Mountaineering – Chukka 49 DX & Sk8-Low (Japan Only!)

https-__hypebeast.com_image_2023_10_vans-x-white-mountaineering-shoe-release-info-002

info via Hypebeast:

“Vans and Yosuke Aizawa‘s utility-based White Mountaineering label have teamed up again, this time to release two different shoes, a Chukka 49 DX and SK8 Low.

The latest release follows the two brands’ SS23 collab, which saw them come together for two subtle takes on the Authentic and Classic Slip-On silhouettes. Like the previous collab, the two models introduced this time are based on the original models manufactured at Vans factory in Anaheim, California — notably utilizing the model name and style number that has been used since the company’s founding.

Design-wise, both shoes feature an original plant print on their nubuck uppers and complementary colored laces. Specifically, the high-cut Chukka 49 DX has a double motif of the same pattern laser-cut over the printed pattern, giving it a special three-dimensional feel”.

Both pairs are set to release via Vans and White Mountaineering’s official sites and retailers, with the Chukka 49 DX priced at ¥16,500 JPY or $110 USD and the SK8 Low for ¥15,400 JPY or $102 USD.

Vans Skate x Dime – Rowley XLT (10.5.23)

DIMEVANS_XLT_NAVY-01_1800x1800

Vans Skate and Dime MTL have put out a few bangers over the years, and this one took everyone by storm. A true reanimation of the original 2001 design, they decided to bring back the Rowley XLT, in all it’s chunky glory. These disappeared faster than we had expected, but then again, we’re in the age of early 200’s retros, and chunky skate shoes are back in. These are perfect in every way, and Dime always does it right. From the Dime custom logo across the silhouette’s heel counter and tongue, to the period correct durable full synthetic nubuck upper, lightweight cut & buff EVA midsole, and all the upper padding you forgot was in there!

I wonder if Vans is going to release these in a wider, more GR variation?  They probably will, and we will have a new horse to beat dead, like we did with the Knu Skool lol! We’ll just have to wait and see.

These dropped earlier this morning, and have all but sold out everywhere. The shoe comes in a Navy colorway, while in true Dime fashion, they released a shop/website exclusive Birch colorway. Both retail for $120 USD.

Vault by Vans x 18 East – OG Half Cab ’92 LX (Coming Soon!)

IMG_9879

Here we have the first look at 18 East‘s first collaboration project with Vans Vault.  Company founder, Antonio Ciongoli, sat down with Village Psychic to talk a little bit about everything.  His introduction to skateboarding.  His fashion background.  His approach to design, manufacturing, and retail.  This dude has a mission, and it’s against the norm, and he’s a game changer.  Read the entire interview over on Village Psychic’s site.

For their first collab of hopefully many more, they chose the OG Half Cab ’92 LX from the Vault Originals line as their silhouette of choice.  A fan favorite of our community.  It wasn’t just by chance either.  18 East’s owner, Antonio Ciongoli set out to recreate his perfect version of the Half Cab, based off of the original USA made version that had a very distinct shape, that was a little bit narrower, and had an extra toe cap panel, which is the first dead giveaway of a Half Cab ’92.  Vans snobs like us, always appreciate when someone goes to great lengths to choose specific things like this.  He also wanted to incorporate some features of the Core Classic Half Cab, or what we commonly refer to as the “GR” (general release) model.  Built similarly to any Core Classics models, with the simple and thin footbeds.  Perfect for skating, due to the great board feel achieved, however the cushioning only lasts for a short while.  While working on the design with our homie Rian Pozzebon at Vans, they decided that the UltraCush footbed that is found on all Vault Originals, was the move, as it provides slightly better comfort, and durability, without the bulkiness of the Vans Skate removable insoles.

The materials and patterns on this pack, all tell a story.  Here’s what Antonio had to say:

“Function came first with most of what we changed being “under the hood.”  So much work went into getting the silhouette right that our main focus became making three highly wearable colorways that any skater, whether they know us or not, would be psyched to skate.  That said, there are a few subtle touches that quietly tie them back to us. The usual woven “Half Cab” patch on the side was swapped for one made from indigo suede, as natural indigo is a key element of our collection and integral to traditional Indian manufacturing.  The suede panel behind that label is debossed with an intricate textile pattern that comes from the handwoven garment we are most known for – our Gorecki cargo pant. Jimmy Gorecki is actually the person that linked us with Vans in the first place so we thought that was a nice, low-key tribute. The less abrasion-prone panels below that are cotton ripstop, because that’s the fabric I’ve probably skated in most throughout my life. We flipped the OG Van Doren typeface to say EAST and added that on a small loop label just below the main tongue label and ran a dedication to the people that initially sparked me on skating on the back side of the tongue”.

The pack of 3 will be offered up in a Black/Navy, Off White, and Brown colorway, each featuring a black puffy tongue with natural white contrast stitching, and a matte white vulcanized sole with tonal foxing stripe.  Of course, the most notable features are the wide variety of materials used.  There’s cotton ripstop.  There’s indigo suede.  There’s debossed details, paying tribute to the intricate textile patterns on their Gorecki cargo pant, which I believe is sourced from JSP, Jimmy Gorecki’s label, who was also the one who introduced 18 East to the people at Vans.  You can’t go wrong with any of these timeless colorways.

I’m proud to say that we may be the community who holds most of the knowledge when it comes to Vans, but we’re still finding out things just like the rest of you.  Case in point, when reading this interview, we learned a little bit about how hard it is to take style cues from say, a Skate Half Cab, or GR, and incorporate it into a Vault shoe, or vice versa.  Different departments at Vans, own the property to that specific shape and style, and well, for whatever reason, they don’t like to cross-breed lol.  Just thought that was interesting.

We don’t have any official release info for this release, but when it becomes available, we’ll let you know, most likely through our social media outlets.

Vans Skate x Hockey – Fall ’23 Collection (9.15.23)

FA23_Skate_Hockey_LineUp

With a unique combination of grit, attention to detail, and a raw, no-frills approach, Hockey brings a necessary rebellious edge to modern skateboard culture. This attitude and ethos are reflected in everything from the brand’s bold, high-saturation designs to its heavy hitting skate clips, and, of course, its sneaker collaborations. Since first working together in 2018, Vans Skateboarding and Hockey have established a singular aesthetic of their own across their range of collaborative footwear, and now they’re continuing that relationship with a trio of releases: fresh iterations of the Skate Old Skool, Skate Slip-On, and Skate Authentic Hi, as well as a Vans Skateboarding x Hockey Slam skate session in NYC’s Tompkins Square Park on September 15, 2023, featuring custom obstacles that tie back to the collection’s design inspiration.

The Skate Old Skool and Skate Slip-On fall on two different ends of the color spectrum, with the former boasting a black and gum color scheme while the latter opts for a mixture of white and black. Though this duo may present vastly different palettes, their aesthetic is unified by snakeskin embellishments and bold red block letter Hockey hits. Meanwhile, the Skate Authentic Hi returns in a brown canvas colorway. An Authentic lengthened into a unique high-top, Andrew Allen’s familiar sneaker boasts a Hockey hit on its collar and comes in a custom box (like the others) that nods to his beloved dog Ronnie, as well as a new snakeskin-printed liner.

It’s not just aesthetics here either — that wouldn’t be the Hockey way. To meet the no-holds-barred skate style of the Hockey team, all three styles are packed full of Vans Skateboarding’s best tech. PopCush™ insoles provide enhanced comfort and energy return with a tireless foam compound that maintains its shape session after session, while DURACAP™ reinforcements hold up to the wear and tear of even the most labor-intensive flip tricks and SickStick™ rubber outsoles provide all-conditions grip and stability.

The Vans Skateboarding x Hockey Fall 2023 collection will be released via vans.com/skateboarding, the Hockey webstore, and select Vans Skateboarding accounts globally tomorrow. In addition, Vans Skateboarding and Hockey will host a Slam skate session on September 15, 2023, at 5 p.m. in Tompkins Square Park, E. 10th Street, New York, NY. The event is open to the public.

Under The Palms – “Play Ball” Capsule Collection (Pre-order Now Live!)

IMG_2547

Paying homage to America’s favorite pastime, we’ve created our very first capsule collection, featuring our very own Billy Bulldog, representing our youth as he does best. It’s an idea we’ve been trying to create forever, and my brother Dennis Padua (Lazywork), and I have finally turned it into a reality. We took our time, making sure we weren’t going to half ass this collection. In fact, I think we’ve over-delivered for y’all. We’ve got two different tees for you, a snapback, a custom UTP enamel pin (our first!), and to top it off, a custom Topps official baseball card of Billy Bulldog! Not to mention, we went with the #1 t-shirt blank in the game right now, made right here in Los Angeles. We came correct with the clear cut vision, the purpose, and an uncompromising mindset, and we hope it showed up in our finished product.

First off, for those of you who are diehard LA fans, we’ve created the “I Love LA” Pack, which will come with the HOME tee, snapback, enamel pin, baseball card, and an exclusive UTP Sticker-Pak made for this collection (while supplies last). This was how we envisioned most would want to order, so here you go. Click on the pic above to purchase!

Here is the home tee in black. This version reps our HOME team, the boys in blue. A powerful Billy Bulldog graphic covers the back, while a logo inspired by those of us who love to collect, is displayed on the front chest. Details about the tee can be found on the web store.

The second is the away tee in navy. This design is for those of you who aren’t fans of our HOME team! Inspired by one of the most iconic players of the 90’s era that we grew up in. The same powerful Billy Bulldog graphic covers the back, but pay attention to the minor differences in this AWAY version, like the signature backwards hat, and the modern-era shades, as well as the updated outfit colors.

For the debut of our UTP script snapback, we went with an all black version, featuring a royal blue script, white outline, and a kelly green underbrim to keep it OG. To top it off, we’ve also created a custom 1″ enamel pin that will come with each hat. We’re suckers for nostalgia, and sure you’ve seen everybody make their version of the beloved 80’s era script snapback, but I don’t think many have gone as far as to try and replicate the true original versions like we have. We grew up in this era, and we know our shit. Don’t play with us son!

BillyBulldogRookieCardFront

We’ve also created a custom official Topps baseball card of our very own Billy Bulldog, encased in a magnetic 35pt card protector, and hand numbered 1-100. Each t-shirt or hat preorder will get one of these as a thank you gift for supporting us, but they are also available to purchase by themselves.

IMG_2551

We hope you appreciate the extra love and attention we’ve put into this collection to make it a home run!

All details for each product are available on the webstore, and all Pre-orders are now LIVE.

Under The Palms – Topps Customs “Billy Bulldog” Baseball Card (Surprise!)

One last surprise for y’all. We’ve created an official Topps Customs Billy Bulldog baseball card. We kept the youthful vibes going with the 80’s themed design. Consider this his rookie card!

Individually numbered to 100. Free with each pre-order, or you can purchase one by itself. Throw out a few favorite numbers in your order comments, and we’ll try and get you your number.

Under The Palms x LazyWORK – Play Ball “Home Team” Edition (Surprise!)

IMG_7393s

So, you didn’t think we were going to forget about all you LA natives, did you?  Well, here it is.  The one that some of you were probably hoping for.  I was fortunate enough to tag along to last night’s Dodger game with my boy, and he surprised me, and totally spoiled my ass with Dugout Club seats.  We sat 4th row behind the Dodger dugout, and you know I took the opportunity to take some pics of the tee and hat.  Sorry, I’m not the best model, but that’s okay, because you’ll make it look way more dope when you get yours.  I also took some shots, trying to capture the vibes of our Vans sneaker culture, by incorporating some of the dopest Dodger Vans in the game.  Peep the gallery below!

This one will come in a black colorway, featuring Billy Bulldog in his classic look, decked out in all blue, with his classic hot pink shades, and his favorite team’s ball cap.  This one matches perfectly with the snapback, and we think most of you will want both, so we will be offering up an “I Love LA” pack, which will include the tee and hat, and a bonus UTP Sticker-Pak (for the first 30 or so to order).  Pre-orders will open up sometime Friday evening.  I repeat, this is a pre-order, so we will make enough for everyone, but once it’s over, that’s it.  We won’t remake this one.  We appreciate all of you for putting up with us! – Bill

Under The Palms x LazyWORK – Play Ball Capsule Collection (First Look!)

IMG_2280s

Here’s the official first look at our @underthepalms x @lazywork “Play Ball” capsule collection.  I got my nephews Ray & Damien to help us bring the vision full circle.  Both of them are beasts on the field, and they brought the authenticity that we always represent.  This is a big moment for UTP, as this is the first time I’ve actually gone as far as to create an entire campaign, including a lookbook, and I’m stoked to have my fam involved through it all!  Their mothers might be willing to work with y’all if you need them for any work lol.  Thank you broskis!

#lazywork #underthepalms #playball

Enjoy the lookbook, and stay tuned for when the pre-orders will open up!
