Vans Vault – UltraRange UC LX (Blends’ Take On the “Get There” Campaign)

Vans Vault has always been the vehicle for introducing new models to the Vans lineup.  With their limited availability and strategically placed accounts, they can utilize their partners to test the waters before diving into the deep end with a new idea.  The UltraRange UC LX is the latest new idea to be introduced to us, and I’m still trying to figure this thing out.  It’s obviously a utilitarian design, with a bit of tech and comfort involved.  The shoe features a rubberized toe cap and heel panel, with a combination of ballistic nylon and suede nubuck for the uppers.  The lining consists of a cotton-knit material for insulation from minor elements, as well as a gusseted tongue.  The UltraRange features a new UltraCUSH LITE EVA molded outsole, with an embedded gum hiker waffle tread perfect for those with an active lifestyle.  Round hiker laces and a sewn in heel pull finish off the outdoorsy aesthetic.

I’m the first to admit that I’m a Vans purist.  I love my classic silhouettes more than any other style.  The vulcanized rubber sidewalls are just too dope and iconic, but I can get behind new ideas if they’re done in good taste and with the right purpose behind them.  I’m not quite sure who these will be geared towards, but I can see these being a great choice when you have a full day of walking or hiking ahead of you.  We’ll just have to wait and see how it goes.

Blends is one of only a handful of Vault dealers who will be offering this new model, and with that, they created this lookbook and video, featuring L.A. artist Aaron Jupin.  Here’s their concept:

“Artist Aaron Jupin walks us through his latest piece. A nostalgic painting in which he depicts a skewed perspective of his parents’ house through the imaginary lens of his fireplace. A humanly impossible perspective that Aaron states is often seen in film and animated motion pictures. Through this visual essay, in partnership with Vans Vault, we define the campaign mantra “Get There” as Aaron puts the finishing touches on his latest painting and reflects on his childhood and the stages of life that have lead him to his profession as an artist based in Los Angeles, CA.”
