To be honest I'm ok with them doing a Vans collab... I just think that Syndicate is the worst avenue that Vans could have pursued. I mean give them a GR first or something. Let them put their fuckin donuts and kindergarden drawings on there for all I care. I think that Supreme would have been a terrible avenue as well. Sure it is their fan base but again you want to talk about losing fans. Supreme would ensure that they got rid of any and all die hard / OG fans with that one.

I like this pack, even if it's not a collab. But yeah, Vans shouldn't give them an 'S' collab. Should've been GR or Vault. But overall, I like the shoes just because I love gumsoles.

I am surprised how well the design is, but I wont support OF so I wont buy the shoes. I saw Tyler wore the sample of the blue colorway at the pretty sweet premiere, didn't know it was a S collaboration.
OF doesn't deserve a S syndicate. There is a bunch of legendary skateboarders out there, Why pick OF... they should re-released jason jesse's sk8 hi's or put ray barbee on the syndicate program.

I don't really care either way about the OF connection, but I think they look pretty nice.
Wasn't someone saying a while ago that with all the syndicate releases as of late, including ones without a big story behind them / a lot of hype, they're a bit harder to move? To me, this is smart, if you can engage the kids who like OF and get them into syndicate, it's a no-brainer.
I get the rationale, i like the shoes, but OF is still a bunch of clowns.

Megas this is Perfect. You nailed the point down flawlessly.
Rancid, Of course t was a "smart" choice for S's sales, but this is a slippery slope. It won't be too long before there's a Lil Wayne x Vans Syndicate shoe. Syndicate made a stupid choice in order to fill their pockets instead of perserving the skate roots of the line and speaking out to the Skaters. I denounce this release, I won't touch it.

It used to be "how can we commemorate skateboarding history/influences?"
Now it's "How can we make the most money off of what is cool right now?"

I guess they figure that if these kids buy up expensive Supreme Vans, then they might pickup some expensive Syndicates as well...even though the "S" pricing has come down a bit with the last few releases. I can't think of a prior Syndicate release that wasn't a collaboration with a classic or legendary skater. Anyone else?

W)Taps, Taka's, & Mister Cartoon's have nothing to do with skateboarding. ^
It makes sense that OF has a collab instead of those other Vans idols purely because they can relate to the younger crowd. Kids these days have no clue who Ray Barbee or Jason Jessee is, obviously they've taken a new direction in their sales plan, I'm sure this applies to future collabs as well. Tyler and OF represent a whole new Era in "skateboarding/music" as much as we don't want to hear that it's true. These kids look up Tyler not only as a musician but also as a "mediocre" at best skateboarder. These will most likely cost a bit more not only because its OF, but as one of our members mentioned, it will come in a drawer box.. No doubt covered in doughnuts or satanic cats.

I was mainly thinking of the skateboarder collabs, but yeah Syndicate has collaborated with top tier brands or icons, like W)Taps, and Mr. Cartoon, but they are sort of "in the family" now, and that's probably why they continue to do releases with/for them. Taka is like their in-house collaborator, though, hehe. He practically has his own line now.

That made me laugh!
I can't say who it is or what the shoes are, but I'm sure some info will pop up soon enough...the Internet age waits for no one.

Yes, I knew that was coming, but they're extremely influencial in one way or another to many people in a Vans-wearing scene.. and they're respectable in many ways other. I feel like they earned their collab. Tyler, like I said earlier, does skate, so I credit him for that, but that's not why he got this collab.. it's because he's easy to sell. Syndicate hasn't really done that before. The fact that Syndicate's changing in
that way just disappoints me. I considered those points when I made my comment but I stand by it, extreme as it is. Any time a brand strays from the roots that got it where it is, I lose a little respect. Vans isn't so broke that they need to sell out, ya know?
