Just SCORED on my very first pair of USA Vans. The best model, too: Red Authntics. Now I get to enjoy the vastly superior comfort of Vintage. They have crazy arch support and cushioning.
Also this week:
.new Microfiber Supercosa's (really awesome, Vans tab is a bicycle instead of skateboard)
.Worn 006 Chukka's (for beating)
Not bad.
I always say it but one of these days when I stop being lazy I'll upload my collection.

Is the arch just a side effect of warping older rubber? Thats what it seems like, and not intentional, hehe.

Nope, mine are not warped and they still have awesome arch support.

Hmmm, maybe I need to grab a vintage pair one of these days. I've got crazy high arches.

the newest schaffer perf chukka had that super crazy arch on the rubber sole, makes them feel even more comfortable

I actually have a pair of those schaffer's. The arch support doesn't really go through the whole midsole and is just on the outer edge of the arch, which actually does nothing for my arches. It's all good, though, I've built up the muscles in my arch enough that it doesn't really bother me. I actually sort of enjoy wearing Vans for the minimalist support and the strengthening that can give my feet (just use extra insoles on days I know I'll be on my feet a lot).

Those Shaffers have that so-called "side effect" of a poor production run in my opinion. Like they used the wrong sized outsoles, thus, the midsoles were pulled inwards, which made the sole arch, but it actually arched down the length of the shoe, and not horizontally like an arch support should be. I've seen in it on those brown GR or A.P.C. Chukkas at The Rack, that look similar to the Ray Barbee Vaults. The Shaffers have it also. What do you guys think? Still intentional or manufacturing error?

Ah, no, I'm talking about how the actual insole had a molded, sorta arch support, but it was more aesthetic than functional since it's just on the inside of the insole. I'll try to take a pic sometime this weekend. Although, a lot of Vault insoles seem to have been molded like that. I did have the issue of the fabric on the insole coming off, so I had to re-glue it down, but now it's just wonky. haha
Edit:
Looks like this. It just rises up on the edge, but not through the actual arch of the foot.

Me too Kyle. It's actually the reason that my kicks always look so cool and perfect; my arch allows for a very nice fit while my shoes don't require lot of tightening. I never have to leave lace imprints on the tongue, or squish the tongue down. The downside is that there's a huge gap between the sole and my foot where the arch is, so I have arch pain. They're basically collapsing. I need to get around to having specially made insoles that I can put in my Vans. But part of me hates compromising the originality of the shoe as a whole, and a lot of releases have super cool insoles, so I just deal with it. haha
Thanks Crimson!
