Hey everyone! Stumbled across this place whilst
looking at pics of different Vans. Decided to sign up.
My name is Derrick, but everyone here can call
me DP. I've been wearing Vans since the mid '80s
(yep, I'm 40+). I still have two pair of B/W checks
that are American made, but the rest are not.
Looking at a lot of your collections makes me
severely jealous! I have 19 pair at the mo.
Most of my collection is from the last 4 years or so.
I'll post pics when I get the chance.
Since I'm an old bugger, I'm not hip to some
of the phrases, so I'll be asking what some mean.
Like, wtaps. Does that stand for something?
Those are freakin sweet shoes BTW!
Anyway, just a hello. Cheers,
dp

What's happening Derrick?! Welcome, and you've definitely just opened up a can of worms I don't think you're prepared to deal with, lol! Don't try to make it a competition with collecting, cause that's when you start to get into trouble. I recently had to rent out a 10x10 storage unit for most of my collection. It was taking over our garage, and making everyone else's life miserable, lol. So yeah, just buy what you like. Try to get it for retail with the help of us, and show us what you got!
BTW, WTaps is a Japanese clothing label that collaborates with Vans Syndicate all the time, and they're mostly known for their crossbones Vans, done in different variations and colors throughout the years. Vans Syndicate has made it easy to brush up on their history. Just go to their site:
http://www.vanssyndicate.com/product.html. They don't use a typical seasonal or date system for their releases. They sort of drop shit when they feel like it. Thus the 001-020 numbering system. The list isn't complete either, as there are a few over-seas models, Europe exclusives, and shop collaborations that aren't listed as well. They've been doing more of that now days as well, so not everything is available at every Syndicate dealer. Also, being that Vans are still not as hyped as Nike, you can still find a lot of older stuff at older Syndicate dealer skate shops. There's still a lot of fun in collecting Vans, so hopefully you stick around, and join the dark side! Most of us are helpful too, and believe it or not, MOST are not assholes about it! ...MOST! Haha!

There's an even smaller group of retailers that sell Vans Vault...mostly sneaker or fashion boutiques. Here's Vans' dealer locator. Just filter it for Vault, and it will find the closest ones to you:

Can anyone recommend a better photo sharing
site than photobucket? Just can't stand the new
format and I'm having issues with the compatibility
with my older iBook.
Anyway, here's the first pic. Hope this works:
These are long gone, but they were sweet at the time.
Will post more pics today, if I don't blow up photobucket.

I use flickr for photo hosting

I like your beater Vans, no other sneaker looks fresher when beat
Though I have noticed since being made in China they get beat faster.

Here's a shredded pair from the 80's that
I custom designed out of a book of patterns
they used to have. Sadly, these are
long gone as well.
