Under The Palms

Figured it's about time I get to doing this... I'm Kyle. I've been into Vans for a while now. I got my first pair of checkered slip-ons back in '02 and I was hooked from then on! I was always into shoes and had gone through several different phases, but mostly wore Chucks by that time. I'm really into ska, punk, rockabilly, new wave, hardcore, and all that, so my interest in the shoes just came along with being into that culture and always being one to stand out and have my own personal style. Since then I've been an addict and have accumulated way too many pairs of shoes (of course on this forum, I'm sure it's more of "can you ever have enough?" haha)! I live in Cincinnati and work at UC's med school doing medical animation and whatnot. At some point I might try getting more into something more commercial, but I also like working in the educational realm. I like to run and workout a lot, although I keep having minor injuries this year, so that's been annoying. I'm also a bit of a nerd, but then who isn't? Especially now that it's gotten so trendy... haha

I wear a size 10 or 9.5, generally.
I've gotten ahold of most of the pairs I've wanted, but my grails are:
Any of the Supreme checkered half cabs
Vault Vanosaurs Era 45's
PE Sk8-Hi's
Vault Wingtip LX black and white

Anyway, I've been wanting to do a series of collection pics ever since the old OTW forum, so I'll use this thread to do so! I'll definitely be doing it in pieces, so make sure to check back!

And on that note... My first pair of Vans:





This is one pair I'll probably always hold on to for sentimental value, haha.

Hehe wow, you actually still have your first pair. I wish I had my first pair still, from the 4th grade!

So the OG Hosoi's were one of my first tastes of really high quality Vans, and from there I was even more hooked... Right around then is also when I discovered Vaults, Syndicates, and other collaborative Vans and I started spending even more time online hunting around for the pairs I wanted. The Hosoi's were probably the first time I really had to hunt a pair down and felt the thrill of victory once I did.



It's too bad that I'm not sure if I'll be adding to this collection with the next round of Hosoi's, but that's fine with me. I'm sure there will be others!

How come you won't be getting the Syndicate Hosoi Bash's?

I like 'em a lot, I just don't really rock the bulkier silhouettes too often. But just watch, I'm saying this now and I'll end up buying both pairs, after breaking down and buying one then deciding I must have the other... haha We'll see! The other problem I'm sure will be availability and price, since they're syndicates.

Man, I've been slacking on my collection pics! I was gonna try to do a picture every day or so... I'll take some tonight, but here's one of my favorite pairs for summertime...

dubyataps. Rudeez are definitely my favorite of any W)taps collabs... Greaserz are a close second. Devil's and Bones I got for about 30 bucks each so they were hard to pass up. haha I don't have the box for the Devil's, but everything else has the box and all.




I like to call this my "skating/surfing creatures collection." Thanks to Guam for helping me add the Shakas this past week!




Rad's. I knew as soon as I saw this collection that I'd have to have 'em all. The GR sk8-hi's were a must-have as well. Wouldn't mind rounding out the set with the GR old skool's and slip-on's either... But for now, I'm definitely happy with this set of grails. SE Racing pair were samples, so they didn't come with the box or the pads, but the skyway's and mongoose's have everything.

i like this a lot. never thought of collecting this way. turning it into separate sets. defenietly opening up my perception.

Rads are rad! Devils are very underrated tho.

Devil's definitely seem to be underrated, now that I've picked up a pair. I didn't even notice how overlooked they were until I saw 'em for that price, which was dropped down from the original price. Same goes for the bones slip-ons.

Yeah Devils can probably still be found at the Lake Elsinore Vans Outlet as we speak. (That's an outlet, about 100 miles East of Los Angeles, in the Inland Empire, for all you non-LA peeps). All models too. $24.95, and buy 1, get 1 half off. BTW, nice collection, and glad I could help a little!
