Sometimes I repurpose old boxes that used to house shoes that have become beaters or worn out and tossed... But since that takes a while, I have a few pairs without a box at the moment. haha

I put the shoes in ziplocks, and carefully stack them. The GR Vans boxes suck for stacking. Your best bet is to get boxes from others, cause a Vans box with the cut top is useless. I don't even bring them home from the Rack or the Vans store anymore. Also, I build those cage racks, that you can buy at Target for like $20, and then I ziptie extra shelves in between the shelves, to allow for more shoes. I may have a pic somewhere of what I mean, but I have 2 of these racks. One in my closet, one outside of it, and also one of those door hanging shoe caddys.

And not being home very much, my room is a mess, I have shoes and boxes everywhere, along with clothes, we have some family coming in from Hawaii this week so I have to clean my room, stuff all of my shoes into my closet to hide the addiction.

What size zip lock bags do you use? I have some stuff I want to stock for a while. I'd need to throw some silica gel in there also right? I've never really had to do any long term storage so I'm not too familiar with the best method.

Haha, I know exactly how you feel! I've sorta started discussing moving in with my gf and part of me is like "crap, how am I gonna move all these shoes? What are her parents gonna think?" haha
If you've got 'em in a ziploc bag, I'd say you probably wouldn't need the silica gel packets unless it's a pair you're really wanting to preserve. Some of my shoes from several years ago that I've kept in the box and haven't worn as often yet still feel about as fresh as day one, even if the box doesn't have the silica gel in 'em.
However, on that note, anybody know where you can buy those little packs of silica gel? Because I have thought of that from time to time for the pairs that only get busted out on just the right occasions. haha

Disclaimer!!! Don't use silica gel packs! Ask Jordan and Air Max collectors, who have had deadstock pairs crumble on them because of this. The silica gel pack is there to help dry up the glue, from the factory, but it's not meant to keep in there forever. I used to think the same way, and I bought silica packs off eBay as well, and put them in all of my ziplocks. I've since removed most of them, especially from my 99 Jordans, and well, just all Jordans! Get the large ziplock bags off of eBay too. They run about $30-$50 depending on the size you go for. I always buy slightly larger, so I don't have to worry. You can always fold the rest over in the box, just make sure to try and get all the air out first. It'll help keep the moisture and smell from getting to them.

guam, do you think its a combo of gel packs AND ziplocks that does that??? I have a bunch of ds pairs that are exposed to normal air and humidity (not sealed), and i throw a gel pack in there to keep the moisture away (in theory). Hope they arent doing more harm than good.

I didnt quite understand what the box top thing meant, but for my syndicates that ive worn to death and no longer warrant the cool cardboard coffin, I use them to organize my overstock of magazines...they make a nice neat little shelving system

Brant, I'm no expert on this subject, but the way you got it going, should be fine. It's mostly when they're sealed, with a gel pack inside, cause theoretically there should be no more moisture getting inside the bag, so the gel packs are drawing all the moisture from whatever is available. I don't think Vans will suffer from this as badly, however the glue will yellow, as we've all seen with some of the older Syndicates. Look at all those vintage pairs all over eBay. They are 20+ years old and are still flexible, and look good.

I've been looking for the big bags. But haven't found anything nice heard it's just as helpful with less down side. I usually just wrap the shoes in a target bag or what Evers around before boxing if I'm concerned about them. Can some one link me to some bags?
